Eadbald succeeded his father Aethelbert as King of Kent from 616 to 640.

Eadbald renounced his baptism and rejected Christianity to marry his father's widow. Later, he was converted by Laruence of Canterbury. He built a church in Canterbury.

He arranged the marriage between his sister Aethelberg and Edwin of Northumbria. Edwin died in 633.

Eadbald married Emma the Frankish Princess and daughter of Theudebert II of Austrasia about 624. They had a son, Eorcenbert who succeeded Eadbald as king.

During Eadbald's reign, gold coins were minted at London and inscribed "AVDVARLD".

Eadbald died 20 January 640.
