Someries Castle is located near Luton and was built in the 15th century by Sir John Wenlock. Even tho is has been referred to as a castle it was actually a fortified manor house. It received its name from William De Someries who had a residence on the site.
The house was partly demolished in the 1700s. It had magnificent brickword\k which can still be seen in the remains of the gatehouse of the chapel and lodge. It still stands today. The original manor house remains can be seen in the earth works of the house. Nearby farm houses used the bricks from the Manor House to build their homes. in the 17th century.
