Calshot Castle was built in 1540 on Calshot Spit at the Solent near Fawley.
It was built to guard the entrance to Southampton Water.

The castle was one of   Henry VIII's  device forts built to counter
European invasions. It had full command of its three story keep
and outer curtain wall.

This castle held strategic position as it was manned in both the
first and second world wars.

It is now owned by English Heritage.
