Disagreements between the Pope and King John and his Barons over the rights of the king resulted in the Magna Carta. Magna Carta guaranteed certain English political liberties, reformed law and justice and it also controlled the behaviour of royal officials. Certain rights would have to be renounced by the King. He would have to respect that certain legal procedures and his will would be bound by law. It also made provision for the English Church to be free from the dictates of the monarchy.
