EARLS OF CHESTER - DERBYSHIRE, ENGLAND

BLAZON:
Hugh Peverel line - az, three garbs or.

King Henry II struck revenge on the Peverel Knighthood alliances
when he came to power. Peverel with its alliances had supported
his opposition, but he won. He accused William Peverel the Younger
of poisoning the Earl of Chester for an excuse to confiscate
the vast empire of "Honour of Peverel" given by William the Conqueror
to his natural son named William Peverel the Elder.
King Henry didn't stop with the land and castles, he did the unprecedented
thing of also confiscating the Peverel arms to go with the stolen
lands. This kingship line still being jealous of the Peverel name
being given to Maud Ingelrica instead of their line from Matilda
of Flanders as well as the vast wealth of the "Honour of Peverel".

Some of the Peverel knights changed the name to Peperel
and made new arms. They finally became Pepperrell ,the ancestors
of Baron William Pepperrell, Kittery,ME. Some Knights in the Hugh
Peverel line kept, or reinstated these arms when Fulk Fitz Guarine,
nephew of William Peverel the Younger, retrieved the 'Honour
of Peverel' and renamed it the "Honor of Guarine".

It is suspected that Odonna Lupus Arvanches,
the later wife of William the Younger Peverel, had her
Avranches Arms incorporated into William The Younger's shield.
Avranches are bloods of Chesters. It is suspected that he just
used his wife's devices when the rampant lion from his father
The Conquerors bloodlines became illegal and that is why they
both are using 'az, three garbs or' as generations pass.
They are therefore of Mutual Bloodlines."
