The following document reproduces a letter to the pope written by Baldred Bisset around 1300, and is taken from "Chronicles of the Picts, chronicles of the Scots, and other early memorials of Scottish history", edited by William F. Skene, LLD, published by the authority of the Lords Commissioners of her Majestys Treasury, under the direction of the Lord Clerk Register of Scotland, H. M. General Register House, Edinburgh 1867. Bill Bissett ( Edward was not the sort of person that you could stick your finger into and get away with, Baldred did that with finesse. I feel privileged and proud to have the letter, it is the greatest document in my Bissett archives. I hope it gives you just some of the pleasure it gives me. I had managed to find a Latin copy of the letter in the book written by Skene, but despite trying every avenue to find a translation through libraries and universities I could not find a translation. It was eventually translated for me from the Latin by a young man who works part time in the local library. I have adorned Baldred's letter with the Bisset shield even though I am aware that he used a crown for his insignia, it is believed that the Grants three crowns insignia derived from Baldred's crown. (I hope he will indulge me my weakness in this matter). The Grant's were introduced into Scotland by the Bissetts; ironic that we are supposed to be a sept of the Grants isn't it?"
