Cynthia Jane Ross In researching the "Ten Generations of Rowe's" record prepared by my father, Ernest P. Rowe, I found a conflict in the names of the wife of Alfred Ashby. on page 4 he lists the wife's name as Cynthia Jane Rowe. On page 9 he gives her name as Cynthia Jane Ross. Since Rowe was Alfred's mother's maiden name, It may have been a typographical error. Using this rationale, I have entered the surname of Ross. Ernest Perry Rowe, Jr. 10/23/1993

My father's records gave her given name as "Mattie" which he noted may have been a nickname for Matilda. The name Martha A. and her dates of birth, marriage, and death were provided by Rowe Register Source R-01007. There is no information on children. E. P. Rowe, Jr., 3/19/1996.

Nancy Ross⁽¹³⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 4 Nov 1803 in Ohio Co., KY. She died on 16 Sep 1876 in Ohio Co., KY. She was buried in Walton's Creek Church Cemetery, Ohio Co., KY.

There are conflicting dates of birth, marriage and death on notes and records in Dad's files. Birth dates on cards were 11/4/1805 and 11/4/1803. It appears that the year 1805 is most common. Dates of marriage are all in January 1830 but the day varies from 2, 12, 22, and 28. The year of death appears to be 16 September 1876, but cards typed in 1977 give 1886. The latter is probably a typographical error and the year 1876 is placed in this record.

I visited Walton's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in May 1994 and took video pictures of her tombstone. The birth date on the stone is Nov. 4, 1803. The date of death on the stone is below ground and I could not read it. - E. P. Rowe, Jr., 5/25/94.

The date of marriage as hand scribed on the Marriage Bond reads "26th day of January 1830." The numeral 6 looks almost like a 1 with a little bottom upward tail to the right, however, since 26 is followed by "th" instead of "st" the day of marriage must be the 26th rather than the 21st. A note written by Ernest P. Rowe (1890-1981) reads: "In the early days of Muhlenberg County (KY) there was a well known Ross family living there. Later when I, as a young lawyer, occasionally had business in Greenville I met one of the descendants of this family, a Mr. Ross, who practiced law there. He was an elderly man, and strongly resembled my father, Richard Perry Rowe, and my grandfather, John Plain Rowe. I had always heard that these two resembled Nancy Ross' father."
