Agnes Duncan Ashby was born May 22, 1894, in Rockport, Indiana, the daughter of David John Duncan and Kate Rowe. She attended Sayre College, Lexington, Kentucky, and Western Kentucky University, She was a teacher in the Ohio County and Muhlenburg County school systems.

She and her husband, Isaac "Ike" Sanford Ashby were the parents of four children, Sgt.Major David Rowe Ashby, of Temple, Texas, Jean Chavez of Owensboro, Kentucky, Katherine Drake, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Nancy Adkins, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

She was survived by a brother, John Rowe Duncan of Urbana, Illinois, and four sisters, Mary Nightingale, Champaign, Illinois, Katie Bell Witty, Akron, Ohio, Ruth Williams, Lyndon, KY., and Grace Smith, Houston, Texas.

She was a member of the Centertown Baptist Church, Centertown, Kentucky.

She died at the age of 78, after a short illness, at the Jennie Stuart Memorial Hospital in Hopkinsville, September 6, 1972, and she was buried in the Centertown Cemetery.
