These photographs are from the album of Catherine Hancorn who was born in 1832 in Whitney, Herefordshire, daughter of Thomas Hancorn and his wife Catherine (nee Lewis). None of them have any names on them but some of them must be Hancorns. In 1881 Catherine was working as a servant for Annie Leven GUTHRIE of Pool House, St Martins, Hereford and some of the photos could be of Mrs Guthrie and others who lived in the same house. Their names are Mary Helen DAWS (widow of the late Dean), Richard & Mary Lucy GILLESPIE, Mary Cath SMITH (servant), Alice Ayles (servant), Elizabeth MORETON (servant), Mary O'DONNELL (servant) and James BRACE (servant). In 1901 Catherine was running a boarding house at Wye Villa, Bridge Street,Hereford and living with her were a niece Ada E. REES, Margaret L.GILLESPIE (Widow) James C.DEEN, Clara Pearce (servant) and Arthur WORDINGHAM. Catherine did not marry and died in 1924. If you can identify any of the photos please e-mail me.
