William & Ellen Curran Hans Weaver

This photo taken around 1920 shows William Curran and his cousin EllenCurran near their home in Sheepland, Dunsford parish.

William was a farmer & a fisherman as well as a good fiddle player.
Hans Weaver born 1816 at Killyleagh. His father was also Hans. They emigrated to Oregan USA.

Lord Bangor's Funeral

This is the funeral procession of the 6th Viscount Bangor of Castleward, Maxwell Richard Crosbie Ward. The photo was taken in 1950 as the procession neared the Ballyculter Parish Church.

Thomas Carey

Thomas Carey was a solicitor, and lived in St Leonards-on-Sea in Sussex, England and also at Warrenpoint in a house called St. Leonards in 1881 & 1901.

The old lady in this photo is Eliza Seawright b. 1869 near Banbridge, daughter of Joseph Seawright & Margaret Ferris. She married Samuel Hannah Whiteside (1870-1934), son of George and Jane (nee Gordon) Whiteside of Tonaghmore near Banbridge. After they had their family, George Jnr, Meggie, Annie, Martha and Lizzie, they emigrated over to Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She died in 1949.

The painting on the left is of Rev Henry Livingstone who was minister of Ballynahinch Presbyterian from 1704. On the right is John Armstrong (1754-1837), postmaster in Ballynahinch & captain of the Ballynahinch Volunteers (in uniform)

Rev. James Armstrong John Strong Armstron
The painting on the left is of Rev. James Armstrong (1780-1839), son of John Armstrong of Ballynahinch (see above) minister of Strand Street Presbyterian Church in Dublin and earlier, assistant Master to his father-in-law, the Rev. Dr. William Bruce, Head of the Belfast Academy. . On the right is John Strong Armstrong (1782-1864), also son of John Armstrong of Ballynahinch- long time elder of 1st Presbyterian Church in Ballynahinch.
These portraits were kindly sent to me by Julian Armstrong.

Robert Denvir
This photo was taken in 1866 at Magill's in Belfast.

of Denvir's Hotel, Downpatrick; inherited the Inn in English Street from John Denvir; meeting of radicals at inn 11 Jan 1840; for sale 21 Oct 1843 ; agent for steamer 'Eclipse' 21 Jan 1843; proprietor of Head Inn, a commercial hotel & posting house in 1846 & 1852 ; died 2 Apr 1875 aged 100; death notice 10 Apr 1875; husband of Mary who ied 1 Apr 1883 aged 98; father of Catherine Nelson (d. 1880 aged 51) & Robert (d. 1890) ; buried Downpatrick Catholic graveyard; will probated 10 May 1875, executor was Robert Denvir of Downpatrick.

From the left: (1) Joseph Beatty of Killyleagh (cheryl's great great grandfather.
(2) Aunt Beattie was born in Ireland & taken in the studio of J. F. Bradley of Perth, Lanark Co., Ontario, Canada. I don't know if she was married to one of the Beattie's of the first family of Joseph Beattie & unknown wife, or if she was the Sarah Beattie in the picture with her mother Rose [Love] Beattie.
(3) Mrs. Rose Love Beattie (wife of Joseph Beattie) died between 1886 - 1887 with her daughter Sarah.
(4) Elizabeth [Beattie] Wright on the right and my grandmother Cecelia Anna [Patz] Wright. Eliza as she was called was born in Co. Down Ireland and was married to Robert Wright who was born in Tullyveery, Killyleagh, Co.Down. Cecelia was the wife of the only son of Robert & Eliza [Beattie] Wright, William [Bill] Wright born in Worcester, MA, USA.

This lovely old photo was kindly sent by Mrs. Dorothy Gallagher of NSW Australia. It shows her grandfather David Stevely Savage born Nov1878 in Magheradrool . His parents were James Savage (a farmer) and Sarah Savage (ms McDowell) . The lady in the middle is called Martha.

David married Jeannie Mack on the 3rd December, 1901 at the Ballynahinch 2nd Presbyterian by Licence Rev. R.G. Milling . The groom's witness Rawland Cleland and the brides witness Mary Patterson. David was a labourer and she was a spinster.

David Savage was the Sexton at the Edengrove Presbyterian (2nd Ballynahinch) Church until his death on 6th Feb 1931 at the Down Infirmary from cancer. Jeanie Mack Savage died on the 6th May, 1934 at Ballynahinch but on this document her name was put down as Elizabeth Jane Savage. They are both buried at the Edengrove Church, in Ballynahinch, in grave no. 157.
