Research Notes sent to me from Lynn Scott
[with her permission]
In these notes she refers to Gibson Jones, as it is spelled in the above deposition,
as
Gibeon Jones in most of her spellings.

Lynn says:
"From looking at these records,
I think it can be said that
Gibson Jones and Gibeon Jones are the same person.
  Note also that
Gibeon Burton's name is sometimes also spelled 'Gibson'.
It is through Gibeon Burton that I am related.

Lynn further says:

He [my notation: Gibson/Gibeon Burton] left SC c.1800
and went to Rutherford Co., TN ,
then to Marion Co., IL in 1817.
In SC his name mostly was Gibeon, then in TN he is recorded
as Gibson, and by the time he arrived in IL his name was Gideon!
I know that he was definitely the same person
through his land transactions and census records.
Grandchildren used Gideon, and there were many of them.

Gibeon Jones was 14 years old in 1758 and living with the Gibsons.
Gilbert, Jr and Gibeon [my notation: Gibeon Jones] moved to Berkeley Co., SC c.1767.
In 1769 the Gibsons(Gilbert and Phoebe) sold and moved elsewhere (maybe Craven Co., SC?).
Gibeon Jones stayed in Newberry. He [my notation: Gibeon] was involved with the Davenports, Goggans, and William Burton families there. [my notation: "there" is Newberry]
There has been some speculation that William Burton's wife is somehow related to Gibeon Jones. Her name was Phoebe, she was born c.1745.
Phoebe and William Burton named a son Gibeon.

Gibeon Jones ALWAYS witnessed William Burton's land sales.
In response to my question: Is it impossible that Phoebe Burton (m. to William Burton) is the same Phoebe m. to Gilbert Gibson, Jr.?  I know that Phoebe was not an un-common name?  But still --
    Lynn's response was:
I do not think Phoebe Gibson and Phoebe Burton could be the same person.

In the will of William Burton 1826 in Newberry County he refers to his wife
Phoebe [my notation: Phoebe Unknown Burton] as the mother of his children..."son, Gibeon to recieve $200. after the death of father and mother"..."son Aaron to receive all the land where I
now live...after the death of his mother"

Gibeon [my notation: Gibeon Burton] was born c.1775. I believe there were children before Gibeon, maybe
as early as 1767 when William Burton made land request, but Gibeon was the
oldest child at his father's death.  She had the last known child around
1783. Phoebe's [my notation: Phoebe Burton] estimated DOB is c.1745.

Phoebe Gibson sold land with her husband, Gilbert in 1758 in Louisa Co.

Phoebe Burton and William Jr. also witnessed a will in 1784 for Sukey
Collins, Daughter of Joseph and Lucy Collins, in Abbeville. William Sr
administered the estate.  Sukey left her mother 400 acres on Thickety Creek.

There is also an overlap of Phoebe Gibson and Phoebe Burton witnessing land
    transactions. 1787-1789.

Phoebe predeceased William Burton, she made no will. There were no Gibsons
or Jones' mentioned in the settlement for William Burton.

In 1768 in Middlesex Co., VA there was a Dorothy Davis who testified that
her brother, William Jones, dec'd had left part of his estate to her son,
William Davis. This was contested by John Blake who married the widow, Mary
Jones. Interested party was also Gibson Jones of Louisa VA, son of the
    deceased.

    [My interpretation]

    Generations
    1) Unknown Jones & Unknown Unknown

    2) Dorothy Jones Davis (her son is William Davis)
    2) William Jones m. Mary Unknown (their son is Gibson Jones of Louisa VA)
Mary Unknwn Jones later m. John Blake
