DALTON CEMETERY
near Clinton Furnace, Monongalia County, West Virginia
It is very possible that Henry Dorton was buried here,
because Henry Dorton's son,
Bethuel, and Bethuel's wife, Nancy Whitehair Dolton
are buried here, as shown by their gravestones below.

All of the photos on this page were taken by Steve Hose May 4, 2003.
Steve located this Cemetery looking for the cemetery of Henry Dorton, his direct ancestor.

Steve says,

The Dolton Cemetery!
Can you believe where this is located.
These pictures was taken as we found it!
  We were in shock.
It looks like no one has been here in a hundred years!

Pretty much every rock that you see is a tombstone.
Can you believe that this is just
out in the middle of nowhere!
No roads or anything to this!!!! How Awesome!

When Steve was asked how he found this cemetery, he replied:
  • A little old lady who lives close to this said she remembered going to a cemetery "up in the woods" when she was little.   It took 2 trips back to her house to get more details, but she was right.   There is a place near here where her dad had coal mines.   You can see the mouth of the mines when you go to the cemetery.

Steve Hose
Descendant of Henry Dorton

Steve says,

I really must mention my dad, Mike Hose,
he is the one who took this picture.

My dad and I are best friends and
we love searching for things like this!

  He keeps me motivated!

Steve says,
James B.
I am thinking this is a Dolton because he is buried between Bethuel Dolton and his wife Nancy Dolton!
Dee says,
There is one James this family that I can see that might match:

1   James Male b: 1819
..   +Elizabeth Dalton b: 1800     Father: Henry Dorton Mother: Eleanor Russell

I don't have a child of Bethuel and Nancy called James, although it is possible that he was a child who died early.

Perhaps the indentation at the top might be a little lamb or something indicating a child.

THOS. DOLTON

Steve says:
Had to use pencil lead to make it show up!

Dee Randall says:
  • This might be Thomas. He is of the right age to be in the 4th W.Va Cavalry in the Civil War and to be the son of Bethuel and Nancy.

You can get your location from the "V" in the road.

Steve says
"Where the road looks like a "V" you go into the woods there going SouthWest.
The cemetery is probably about 3/4 of a mile up on the hill."

Steve says:
"The  map I made with my personal instructions is wrong.
I took the logging road off of the wrong "V" in the road.
I needed to come off of the "V" from Owl Creek Rd."

There is an abstract of deeds that may belong to the property where this Dalton Cemetery is located.
I'm not sure that I understand their relationship at this time.
I am sure that I don't have them in their totality, so I will not add any information regarding them at this time.
