It appears that this family came to Missouri about 1833 as that is the last year they had a child born in Kentucky. (Anna Sartori had 1817 as the migration year but this is not born out by KY land records and children's birth places). Laurel Co. KY land records show Marvel Stow granted 50 acres on Little Laurel River 14 Oct 1828 (Bk 1-2:120) with another 50 acres in Nov of that year with same description (Bk a-2:121)
In Missouri he settled on what is now known as Gravois Road (Hwy 30) a short distance east of House Springs. The farm where he lived was later owned by the Weber family. Land records at Hillsboro: L:142, N:250, N:252 show transfers of land for the purchase of Bear Creek School and the Methodist Church. The last two are transfers to John R. Stow.
In 1846 Marvil was appointed Commissioner of Schools in Township 43, Range 4. (Goodspeed: History of Jefferson Co.)
There was no marker for him in the cemetery on his farm where many of the Stow family are buried. The people there believed that he was buried there as he spent his last days at that farm. There was no probate record for him in Jefferson Co. records.
Nancy Reese, his first wife may have died about 1830 in Kentucky. The second wife was Anna Bones. They were married in KY as their first children were born there.

It was not unusual in those days for a wife to die in childbirth with the first child. There were 17 months between these marriages.

The Stows made frequent transfers of land within their family. In 1853 (BkL:374) they sold to Marvil Stow; 1852 (Bk M:586) to Marvil Stow; 1857 (Bk S:532) to Joel Stow; 1864 to Sturmann for $1200.
They were active members of the Methodist Church as his name was mentioned several times in the Book of Minutes kept by Rev. Isaac Sullens, secretary of the Methodist Board in Missouri.
On 5 Feb 1881 Lucinda died. She was buried in a small cemetery across the highway from her home where other Stows are buried. Cedar trees and a few tombstones still stand to mark the spot. John continued to live on the property. A large home had been built in front of the original log cabin. His son, Frank Stow, reared his family there and in his last years, John moved back to the cabin where he and Lucinda had brought their children into the world. He died 12 Mar 1888 and laid to rest in the cemetery with Lucinda.

Nancy later married John Ramey 14 Oct 1866 (Jeff Co. Mg bk 2) and they made their home near Catawissa, Franklin Co., MO. Here she died 12 Apr 1900. She had five children by her second husband: Edward, Annie, Ross, Bert, Wilde (girl) Ramey.
