II-8 JAMES CADMUS SWEANEY

The eighth child of Jeremiah and Nancy was born 25 Feb 1833 in Lawrence Co. TN and came to Missouri with his family. He is listed as age 17 in the 1850 census and living with Jeremiah. By 1860 He has established his family and Mahala Hayes, possibly his mother- in-law, is living with him. He married Margaret Ann (Hayse or Hays) and remained in MO. (We need proof of this marriage as the records in Dallas Co. for this time period were destroyed.) They sold lots in Buffalo in May 1868 to John N. Eberhart. (Deed Bk A, 297).

There is an newspaper article from Buffalo about James being an excellent horseman. He raised horses.

At the time of his death his widow sold 33 mares and peti- tioned for the homestead. It was 160 acres in Sec. 9, Twp 34, R.19. James registered in this section in 1866 (see "Dallas Co. Plat Book, 1986, transcribed by Judith McClung) Benjamin Wilson was appointed executor of the estate but he died July 1894 and James's son Isaac W. Sweaney was appointed in his stead.

They are buried in the Sweaney Cemetery. He died 19 Feb. 1893. Her stone reads: 21 March 1830 - 1896.

They had at least four children:

III-31 Jemina M. Tennessee
III-32 Isaac W.
III-33 James F.
III-34 F. Mahala Alabama
III-35 Francis ? (see 1860 c.) Perhaps James F.
