This man is probably another son of John and Elizabeth McClung of Georgia. Someone reported
that he was born in 1799. We would like documentation of this. If this date is correct it
would account for the male in the 1820 household of John McClung listed born 1794-1802 if
he were still with the family. The 1850 census of Campbell County has him listed as Wiley
McClung age 54 (b. 1796) in South Carolina.
After John McClung, Sr. left Georgia about 1806, most of this family was living
in Hall County (earlier Jackson Co. land). William W. would have been a small boy at this
time. We find that 1 Jan 1816 a William W. McClung purchased land in Jackson County from
Peggy Black. He must have gone out on his own as he is in a tax list from Jackson County in
1817. This is the last record we find in Georgia for this man unless he was one of the
drawers in the 1832 land lottery. It is unusual that Reuben's son, William W. could have
three legal draws. One or more of them may have belonged to this man. A person was not
allowed to draw but once unless he had a wife. If he won land, he was not allowed to draw
again.
We do not have a marriage record for this man but he had five children listed in the 1850 census of
Campbell County, GA and they were all born in GA.
The first known child of William Wiley McClung was born 1841 in GA.
The second child of William Wiley McClung was born ca 1843 in GA.
The third child of William Wiley Mcclung was born ca 1845 in GA.
The fourth child of William Wiley McClung was born ca 1846 in GA.
The fifth child of William Wiley McClung was born ca 1849 in Campbell County, GA.
This family was living next door to a David and Elizabeth Turner family from S.C. who had
an elderly lady Mary, age 100, living with them. They are not listed in the county by 1860.
