1-3 John McClung, Rev. Soldier, Second Family

We have the most difficult time establishing this family as we do not have a marriage record for this one. We therefore, do not know the name of this wife.

In 1806 John went to the French-Broad area of western North Carolina. It was in Buncome County. Part of Buncome County was included in Haywood County where we find John in the 1810 census with possibly some of the first family and the new wife. You can see this area at: TN.

1: 26-45: 1765-84
0: 45+

We do not know who all the little girls were in the above enumeration. They may have been a mixture of the two youngest ones being from the current marriage with the two older ones either from John's first marriage, or from hers.

John stated that he moved to N.C., S.C., Ark., Ala. and then to Tennessee by 1840. He states that he moved to NC in 1806 and lived there three years. This is not quite correct because we found him there in 1810. From there he states that he lived in the Pendleton District of South Carolina for five years. At that time Pendleton took in the present counties of Oconee, Pickens and Anderson. This would have been across the Savannah from Franklin Co. and Habersham counties in Georgia. He then moved to Arkansas on the White River and lived there for two years. We have not found him in a census for the year 1820. He may have been between Arkansas and Alabama at that point.

All of these moves must have been very hard on the wife. We do not know who she was or where they were married. They may have been married in South Carolina where no marriage records were kept. They may have married when he was in the French-Broad Holsten area. Certainly he was with his new wife by 1810. When John moved to Morgan County, Alabama he remarried so his second wife probably died in Arkansas. That might have precipitated his move back to Alabama where some of his grown children were living.

His third marriage to Nancy Luster was in 1824, so children born before that would have belonged to this second wife. We are adding Julia A. to this group as she was born ca 1822.

15-4 JOHN S. (?) McCLUNG
GA2304

16-4 JULIA ANN McCLUNG
GA2305

A child of John and McClung and his second wife was born ca 1820 in AL. She married John Jones, perhaps in KY. The 1860 Census for Pope County, Arkansas, Dover Township, household 540 dated 25 July 1860 lists:

Jones, John, age 35, Farmer, KY
Jones, Julia A., age 40, AL
Jones, William B. , age 13 TN
Jones, Mary (possibly Mony) J., age 10 KY
Jones, Nancy E., age 5 IL
Jones, Jemima, age 2 AR
McClung, Nancy, age 76 VA (Virginia is probably incorrect) This would be Nancy, nee Luster.

By 1870 Census for Yell County, AR, Riley Township, Post Office at Danville, household 66, dated 21 July 1870 no longer has Nancy Luster with them. Only the daughter, Jemima is still with them at age 11. John at this time gives his place of birth as Tennessee. Between these two censuses, the older son, William B. Jones married Susan James 13 Dec 1866 in Yell County, AR. So by the 1870 Census for Yell County, Arkansas, (Riley Township, household #62) We find William B. Jones, age 23, farmer, TN; Susan Jones, age 22 GA; and Charity Jones, age 1 AR. By 1880 there are three more children: N. J. Jones, age 8, daughter AR; Sarah A. Jones age 6, daughter AR; Thomas Jones, age 2 son AR

Jemima Jones, daughter of William B. and Julia A. married D. C. Jones 3 Mar 1878 in Yell County, AR.
