The fourth known child of John and Elizabeth McClung was born ca 1793 in Georgia.
The 1820 Hall County, GA census shows John McClung. He is the age to be the John who married
Rebecca Nix. She is listed in that age bracket also. There are three men in the birth years
1794-1804. These could be William W., Hiram and ?. Another bracket of one male 1804-10 could
possibly be Sewel H. There is a sister b. 1804-10 (Elizabeth?) Drucilla married in 1819.
Also there is the mother b. before 1775.
It appears that John married Rebecca Nix about 1819 as they had not yet had any children of
their own by the 1820 census. They were probably living on the homeplace that had been
part of Jackson County earlier. We need proof of our connection to the NIX family.
The oldest Nix man in the 1840 census is John Nix living in Henry County. He and his wife
were born in the 1780s. He may be a brother to Rebecca. Rebecca's mother was born in 1751.
We note that Hiram was born in Henry County in 1830.
By 1830 John is enumerated in Talbot County with two males born 1820-25.
He was a farmer.
We find him living in Talbot County, GA in 1850 next door to Reuben McClung (son)
(b. 1846 in GA). John's wife appears to be Rebecca Nix as his mother-in-law was living with
them and she was Rebecca Nix, b. 1751 in SC. John and
Rebecca had nine children living with them at the time. There may have been another child
or two born after 1850.
By 1860 John had died and Rebecca has four children at home with her in Talbot Co. (p. 134):
Hiram, b. 1834; George b. 1839; Alzadia b. 1842 and John (III) b. 1844.
The first known child of John and Rebecca Nix McClung was born 1822 in Gwinnett County, Georgia
He had not married by age 25 when he is listed in his father's household in Talbot County.
There is a Jonathan in 1860 Marion County and he also appears in the 1850 census
of Marion and this Jonathan is still with his parents then. We have not located Jonathan
in the 1880 census though he would have been only 55 years old. Also note that Thomas (son of John Jr.)
also named a son Thomas Jefferson McClung.
In May 1864 at the age of 42 Jonathan enlisted in
Co.B, 31st Ga Regt. (Ga. Volunteers or Ga. Militia) where he served 11 months before the war ended in
April 1865.
Jonathan McClung married Lusina Askew 24 July 1842 in Muscogee County, GA (See Early Georgia Marriages).
It was custom for the marriage to take place at the home of the bride so that is probably why it was
registered in Muscogee County.
From Olin McClung we have this contribution:
The following is quoted from the Urquhart, Coffey, Boland and Allied Families of the South, by
Annie Velma Urquhart Klayder, published by the author, 1991, Columbus, Ga. (I do not have the entire
book.)
"Jonathan McClung, who was married to Lucina Askew, is the son of John Lewis McClung and Rebecca Nix.
Jonathan served in Co. B, 3rd Inf., CSA during the Civil War, and is buried in the old Bethel Cemetery,
Marion County, GA. His grave is marked by a Civil War marker. The McClung family came to Talbot County
from Gwinnett Co., Ga."
Jonathan and Lusina are listed in the 1870 census of Marion County in Fort Perry Twp, P.O. Tazewell
(P. 187, #1401) with children: Nancy E. 19F, Thomas 17 M; Josephine 15 F; Louisa M. 14 F.
Curtis E. McClung tells us that Lucinda Askew died in 1885 and Jonathan married Elizabeth (Lizzie)
Benson. From this marriage two children were born, Morgan McClung, born 1888 and William Curt McClung
(My Father) born 1890. Jonathan McClung died February 1, 1904 and is buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery,
Marion County, Ga.
The first child of Jonathan and Lusina Askew McClung was born ca 1843 in Georgia, probably Marion
County. We have a marriage of Mary McClung to Thomas W. Cooper 29 Dec 1859 in Marion County.
The second child of Jonathan and Lusina Askew McClung was born ca 1845 in Marion Co., GA. By 1870 he
had left the home. He may be the James in 1880 Harris County, Georgia. That James was working on the
railroad and had a wife Anna and two children: Ola and Jeter. (See bottom of file)
The third child of Jonathan and Lusina Askew McClung was born ca 1847 in Marion County, GA. By 1870 she
was no longer with the family. She had either married by then or had died.
The fourth child of Jonathan and Lusina Askew McClung was born ca 1853 in Marion County, Georgia. We
have not found a marriage record for her.
The fifth child of Jonathan and Lusina Askew McClung was born 16 February 1853 in Ga, maybe
Talbot County., died 29 June 1909, buried in the old Bethel Cemetery, Marion Co., GA. His
grave is marked with a tombstone. Thomas Jefferson McClung married Joanna Harris, (my grand
mother) born 26 January 1860 near Buena Vista in Marion County, Ga., died 29 April 1954. (From Olin
McClung)

The second child of John and Rebecca Nix McClung was born 1828 in Georgia. She married
Richard Hammock 23 Dec 1851 in Talbot County, GA. (N.Am Vital Recds Index).
The third child of John and Rebecca Nix McClung was born 1823 in Georgia (Gwinnett or Talbot). He
married Susan ___ ca 1860 in Georgia. They are in the Bloomingdale, Chambers Co., Alabama census in 1880.
They had seven children at that time and all born in GA. This would indicate they had
moved about 1874. Their first son's name is John.
The first child of Francis and Susan McClung was born 1859 in GA (check Talbot Co.).
The second child of Francis and Susan McClung was born 1861 in GA.
The fourth child of John and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1833 in Georgia (probably Talbot Co.). There is a Hiram (b.1840) in Talbot Co., GA in 1880 who has a sister, Alzadia b. 1845 living with them.
Hiram married Sarah who was born 1855 in Georgia. She is 15 years his junior so may be the
second wife. They are recorded in the 1880 census of Talbot County, Ga, p. 253C. Also
living with them was his sister, Alzadia. On the same page was John W. b. 1856 (which we
presume to be his son from a prior marriage or his brother?) and the George W. family who was probably his
brother.
We need his enumeration in the 1870 census but so far have not found it. This would give us the
children of Hiram if he had any.
The fifth child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1837 in Talbot Co., GA.
He married Samantha Daniel 21 June 1858 in Talbot Co., GA (LDS 249366). By 1880 they were
in Harris County, Georgia. This is a county adjoining Talbot to the west. Samantha was b.
1840 in Georgia. Her father was born in GA and mother in MS. They are
listed with 10 children. We need records from Harris County and Talbot County, GA.
The first child of Thomas and Samantha Daniel McClung was born ca 1860 in GA (probably Talbot County).
(He is enumerated as the eldest son in the 1880 Harris Co. census, p. 547D).
The second child of Thomas and Samantha Daniel McClung was born 1861 in GA.
The third child of Thomas and Samantha Daniel McClung was born 1863 in GA.

The ninth child of Thomas and Samantha McClung was born ca 1878 in Georgia.
The tenth child of Thomas and Samantha McClung was born ca 1879 in Georgia.
The sixth child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1837 in Talbot Co., GA.
The seventh child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was a son born 1841 in Talbot Co., GA. His
name was hard to read on the 1850 census and looked like "Real" but we believe this was
the person.
Royal McClung is listed as an overseer in the 1860 census of Taylor County., GA. He was living
with the Leonard L. Breedlove family. Leonard was a teacher so he was probably working at a different
place.
Rile M. McClung married Susan A. Hogg 7 Jan 1866 in Talbot Co., GA. This may be the "Royal" McClung
who was listed as a private 11 June 1861 in Co. E, 9th Reg. He was on detail duty as a waggoner
31 Oct 1861. (Info from Walter Boswell).
We find Royal McClung in the 1870 census of Talbot County, GA age 33 with wife Susan age 24.
They had three children at that time.
The first child of Royal and Susan A. Hogg McClung was born ca 1867 in Talbot County, GA.
The second child of Royal and Susan A. Hogg McClung was born ca 1868 in Talbot County, GA.
The third child of Royal and Susan A. Hogg McClung was born ca ca 1869 in Talbot County, GA.
The eighth child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1844 in Talbot Co., GA.
He married Sarah J. ___ ca 1874 in Talbot Co., GA. (As far as we know, these records
are extant and need to be searched). He was on a Muster Roll for Co. I, 46th Reg. Discharged
for disability.
There is also a discharge record for 10 Oct 1862 from Charleston, SC. Enlisted 4 Mar 1862 as
private in Co. B, 32nd Regt, GA Inf. 1 Mar 1863. On detached duty, Provost Guard at
Charleston, SC 31 Dec 1864. Pension records show he surrendered near Greensboro, NC 26 Apr
1865. One of these records may belong in the George/Myrada Whatley McClung file. (info from
Walter Boswell).
The 1880 census finds George W. McClung in Talbot County, GA with wife, Sarah J. and two children. His
occupation was given as farmer.
The daughter of George W. and Sarah J. McClung was born 1879 in Talbot Co., GA.
The ninth child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1842-5 in GA. She was with her
mother in 1860 Talbot County. She was
living with her brother, Hiram, in the 1880 census of Talbot Co., GA. She apparently never married.
The tenth child of John Lewis and Rebecca Nix McClung was born ca 1844-6 in Talbot Co., GA. We have
not been able to locate him in the 1880 census. There is a John W. in Talbot County in 1880
near Hiram but he gives his birth as 1856 (transcription error?). He married Elizabeth ___
about 1879. She was born ca 1862 in Georgia. They had no children at that time.
There was also a daughter named after her mother: Elizabeth who was listed as one of the
orphans of John. She was probably born ca 1806. She may be the Elizabeth McClung who married
Wright Roden in Blount County AL 25 Apr 1824. (See Richard's File)
Vincent S. Roden was the son of Wright Roden and Elizabeth McClung, daughter of soldier John McClung. He
(VS) married Louhena Caroline McClung, daughter of Robert McClung and Mary Roden. His second wife as
listed in the 1870 census of Marion Co., AL, was an Elizabeth (unknown maiden name). They had two children
enumerated: William, age 7 and a daughter named Beady? age two.
Wright Roden remarried a Nancy __?__. In the 1850 census of Walker County, AL, we find this family:

7-4 DRUCILLA McCLUNG
GA0952
The child of John and Elizabeth McClung was born in 1798 in GA. She married Isaac York 1 Nov 1819 in
Hall Co., GA. (Hall Co. formed from Jackson Co. in 1818.) This family appears in the 1830
and 1840 censuses of Gwinnett Co. and in the 1850 and 60 censuses of Cobb Co., GA. Kelly
Searles, researcher, notes that Drucilla won land in a lottery with siblings Suel H. and
Hiram, orphans: Lot 111, Sec. 10 Habersham Co., GA. In the 1860 census, she is listed in the
household of her son, Augustus W. York as a widow. She died 20 Jan 1882 in Marietta, GA.
Their children were: Melisa, Cyrus, Gather C., James W., Elizabeth J., Oliver N., Augustus W.,
Parthena, Perry F. York. (FTM)
There is an interesting bit of civil war history with the son, Cyrus. His home was between the lines
at the Battle of Kennesaw. Not only was the house used by both sides, it lay at the site of
some of the fiercest fighting in the entire battle. (Kelly Searles, researcher).
