Andrew Hoppe Caldwell (H. from Thurston Cole) was born ca 1785 in KY to William Caldwell. He married Nancy Ann
Farrar who was born ca 1795 in KY. Her parents were Leonard Farrar and Margaret Hamilton Farrar. Leonard
was a soldier in the Revolutionary War where he served out of Pittsylvania County. Leonard was born in 1764
in Goochland County. After the war they were in Pendleton Co., SC before moving to Kentucky and then
Missouri in 1799.
Andrew H. Caldwell was living in Boles Twp in the 1830 census with 8 in the household. Andrew and Nancy
both died 1847 in Franklin County, Missouri.
The first child of Andrew H. and Nancy Ann Farrar Caldwell was born ca 1811. He moved to Missouri
with his family where he purchased land at the St. Louis Land Office. He purchased 80 acres in Twp 43, Sec 8, R 1E
on 15 Oct 1831 (Title # 2091). We do not know what happened to L. F. Caldwell but the following year,
his parents were acting as representative for him and sold this land. (Deed Bk B:345). He died before
4 May 1841.
The second child of Andrew and Nancy Ann Farrar Caldwell was born 1812. He married Lucinda Caldwell 16
Jan 1840
Franklin Co., MO (Mg Bk:A:166). She was born 28 Nov 1821 and apparently had died by 1847. His wife in 1850 was
Rhoda (Scott), age 22, b. 1828. Their children were James b. 1840, Robert Strother b. 1842, Fenton M. b. 1845,
sons of Lucinda. Rhody died in Sept 1850/1 giving birth to Perrin Scott Caldwell. In 1860 his wife is given as
M.J. About 1870 James, Fenton, and Scott moved to
Marion County, Ill where they appear in the 1870 and 1880 censuses with their families.
The third child of Andrew H. and Nancy Ann Farrar Caldwell was born 1816. James P. md Ann Caldwell 6 May
1838 in Franklin Co., MO (Bk A:128). She was born 2 May 1818 and died 1847.
Another marriage for a James P. married to Margaret Givens Smith 30 Nov 1847 in Franklin Co. (Mg Bk B:58) and
says that
Margaret is of Gasconade County. She was born 17 Jan 1822 and died 9 Sep 1909. (Thurston Cole's records).
She was buried in Cedar County, Missouri. His children
were Thomas Benton Caldwell, Richard, and Mary Caldwell. He had three more by Margaret Givens Smith. (This is the
family of Arthur B. Caldwell).
We find this family in the 1860 census of Douglas County, Missouri (P. 57) with James P. giving his age as 48 (1812) and
Margaret 38 (1822). Their children are listed: Richard, 17; Lucinda, 18(?); Mary, 12; Sarah 10; Martha E., 8; William
S. 6; Elizabeth 3; Ruben 1/2; all born in Missouri.
There must have been some moving around due to the civil war. They were in Douglas Co. in 1860 but
James died in Fulton County, Arkansas in 1863. Margaret survived the war and was buried in Cedar County,
Missouri.
