St. Louis Deeds

Indirect Index

St. Louis has a different way of keeping their deeds. Because they had early records, long before statehood, these are kept in "Archived Deeds". About 1818 they started keeping the territorial records in books labled A, B, etc. They go through the alphabet by 1837 and then do the second series = A2, etc. The third series starts about 1843 and the fourth series in 1847. It was a large city and county so that makes it difficult locating the records in the buildings. Having everything indexed and microfilmed makes it possible to order the deeds.

We found a deed where Kincaid Caldwell purchased land from A. Parker ca 1818. No. 1150 Archived Deed 4-10. This is the reference we have on that.
