Thorn said he witnessed Benj. Caldwell inhabiting and cultivating land 6 years ago, and had a wife and

claimed 460 arpents on the Missouri River, Dist. of St. Louis. 1806 James Stevens testified that in
1803 he cut a few poles and was preparing to build and cultivate but was prevented by the Indians.
