p. 85: David Caldwell came from Pennsylvania and settled on Houston
Creek previous to 1800, where he died about 1828 or 9. He was a
soldier in the Rev. War and received an injury to one of his arms
which necessitated its amputation after he settled in Kentucky. He
was a man highly respected in the community.

John is a grandson of the pioneer, William Caldwell. He was a
native of the North of Ireland and emigrated to America prior to
the American Revolution in which he participated. He was wounded
at Brandywine. He was among the hardy pioneers who came to Kentucky
early. He located on the Houston, one mile West of the Court House.
Some of the land he then purchased is now occupied by the Cemetery
and Fair Graounds. He engaged in farming and distilling and was a
merchant in Paris, KY. He died 1829 aged 75 years. He had one son,
Samuel J. who was father of John. The daughters were:
Samuel Hall married Eliza Caldwell (b. 29 Jan 1795 in this
county), daughter of William and Ann (Southerland) Caldwell. William
was a native of Ireland who came from PA (same as above).
Note: This lady's name must have been Betsy Eliza or Elizabeth.
Ralph Lawrence, farmer. P. O. Oakland Mills, KY.
He was born in Nicholas Co., KY 10 May 1851, the son of John and
Fidella (Caldwell) Lawrence. She was a native of Nicholas Co., KY
They had eight children.
