Judith was reared in Springfield, Missouri. She joined the church in the early 60s and
started genealogical research in 1963 under the tutelage of Bro. John Cochran.
Her Career was in education, specializing in helping children with reading and learning
problems. She studied at SMSU, So. Ill. U, Edwardsville, and completed her M.A. at Drury
She reared two sons who have gone into computer work and medicine: Ron Marshall Toler and
Dr. Donald Lee Toler.
In the area of genealogy, she has taught numerous church classes and adult education night
classes. She was charter member of the St. Louis Genealogical Society and served as their
first treasurer, then secretary, and on the education committee, and census transcription
teams. She is a member of the Ozark Genealogical Society and Life Member of the Dallas
County Historical Society.
She was on the original staff of the Springfield Stake Family History Center when John
Cochran organized it in 1976. She served as staff trainer and conducted workshops and
seminars in the early years. She has conducted classes in numerous conferences for the
Family History Center, OGS and St. Louis Genealogical Society.
She has published: The Phillips and Related Families of Dallas County, Missouri; The
Hildebrand Saga; The Looney Family of Greene County, Missouri; Ballengee Trails; The Death
Records of Dallas County, Missouri; The Plat Book of Dallas County, Missouri; The 1850
Greenbrier County, Virginia Census with Index; and Climbing Your Family Tree, Lessons for
the Beginner. She has been the editor of the McClung Family Association Journal for over
30 years and has published the Greenbrier McClungs on her website. She is currently working
on a database to replace the McClung Journal. "Judith in the Ozarks" is her website which
features databases on Hildebrand, Caldwell, Sweaney, Robinson and McClung as well as several
