James Monroe, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come, Greetying. Know ye that by virtue of the Land office Treasure warrents to wit: two hundred and sixty acres by number eighteen hundred and forty nine issued the fifteenth of march Seventeen hundred and ninety six and forty acres by number eleven thousand six hundred and fifty four issued the sixth day of April One thousand seven hundred and eighty two, There is Granted by the Said Commonwealth unto Jean Ballengee a Certain tract or parcel of land Containing three hundred acres by survey bearing the date the Ninth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety six lying and being in the County of Greenbrier in the north side of new river about half a mile below the mouth of Greenbrier River adjoining a survey made for Jonathan Rumford of seven thousand four hundred and seventy three acres and a survey made for Isaac Ballengee deceased of one hundred and eighty four acres and bounded as followeth to wit

Beginning at an ash and buckeye at the Sheep rock branch Corner to said Rumford and Bellengee and with the latter north forty seven degrees west one hundred and thirteen poles to a red oak and ash at the foot of a hill north thirty seven degrees west twenty two poles to a beech north three degrees west sixty four poles to a black oak and poplar the the foot of the hill in the botton north fifty seven degrees east twenty poles to a sugartree north twenty three degrees east one hundred and thirty six poles to two white Oakes north six degrees west fifty two poles to a black Oak and white Oak south thirty eight degrees west forty four poles to a white Oak and dogwood corner to the same and leaving the same North twenty five degrees west eighty poles to two black Oakes and a white Oak on the bank of the river and down the same north twenty degrees east fifty six poles to a black Oak south eighty two degrees east fifty six poles to a sourwood hickory and yellow Lynn on a steep bank north fifty eight degrees east twenty two poles to a black Oak white Oak and maple on said bank north fifty eight degrees east fifty two poles crossing Rebekah's branch to a black Oak north thirty four degrees east thirty four poles to a white Oak Chestnut leaving the river and with Rumford line thence South ten degrees west five hundred and twenty poles on a ridge to the beginning with the appurtenances to have and to hold the said land or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Jean Ballengee and her heirs power In Witness Whereof the said James Monroe Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia Hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be assined (sic) at Richmond on the Twenty second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and of the Commonwealth the Twenty fifth.
