This section begins on the McClung Genealogy (1904) on page 227. We do not know at this point
from which line this group descends. Suzy Burt contributed on this line for many years. It was
her educated opinion that the head of this clan was a John who was possibly the son of Hugh
McClung who died in Greene Co., TN. John McClung (of St.Paul, MN) who has tracked Hugh
(b.1780s) traces him and David to a John McClung.

James White McClung from the Pennsylvania line is included here because
he had many children in Madison County, Alabama and was prominent there.
There are numerous McClungs who went to Alabama when land opened up. Some were from
Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Most of these will be covered in their
respective lineages.
In 1818 land records we find David who came from Elk County, Alabama Territory and James
who came from Limestone, Alabama Territory and took out land from the Huntsville Office.
Hugh in 1818 in Limestone Co. There was James McClung in 1818.
The tax lists show 1813 William McClung in Madison Co; 1815 Alexander (Montgomery) McClung
in Madison County; 1816 Francis, John, Leslie, and William in Madison Co. We have not discovered the
parentage of this William.
In the 1820 census of Alabama, we find Hugh McClung and James McClung in Limestone County.
Francis McClung was listed in St. Clair County. Some of the counties did not report in.
All three of these men were listed as over 21 (no older category listed). This older James is
the son of William and Euphemia Cunningham McClung of the PA group.
