(133:26).Quoting from Christopher Cope's, "The Lost Kingdom of Burgundy" :"Humbert III, who reigned from 1149 to 1189, . . . was a man ofirresolute spirit who was disconsolate at being born a prince andpreferred the seclusion of a monestery. 234946688. Sitric (Sygtrygg) King Of DUBLIN was born about 850 in Dublin, Leinster, Ireland. He died 896. [Parents]

Carol (Seejay51) stated that Sitric (she named him "Halfdansson" implying that he was son of Halfdan?) was father of Sitric King of Dublin & York. Todd Farmerie stated that the name of his father was not known, and naming one's son after the father was not common custom.  Todd did state that Sitric, King of Dublin & York, was grandson of Inguar of Dublin (who I take to be another name for Ivar the Boneless).

Stewart Baldwin, reviewing a book "Scandinavian Kings in the British Isles, 850-880" by Smyth, stated that Smyth said Sitric's father was also named Sitric (d. 896).  Stewart Baldwin did not agree with the name (it was not the practice to name one's son after one's self), but did verify that Sitric King of Dublin  & York was grandson of Ivar.

Stewart Baldwin, on his website entitled "The Kings of the Isle of Man", in the notes under "Table 1: Kings of Dublin" states that Ivar had a son Sitric, who died in 896.  However he does not connect that Sitric with Sitric King of Dublin & York; EXCEPT to say that Harald King of Limerick, if not son of one Sitric, could be the son of the other Sitric, which seems to imply a relationship between the two Sitrics.

Note: Obviously this generation was named something, and "Sitric" is the only name given, so I am using it, even if possibly/probably wrong.

234946752. William I "Longsword" Duke Of NORMANDY was born about 891 in Rouen, Seine-Inferieure, Normandy, France. He died 17 Dec 942 in Killed At Picardy, France. William married Sprota (Sporta) De SENLIS after 930 in 1st Wife (Danish Wife/Non Christian Marriage).

William. [Parents]

William I, "Longsword", b. ca. 891 probably Rouen, c. 927 succeeded to Duchy of Normandy, c. 930 the Bretons rebelled, he subdued them, taking Brittany, the Channel Islands, the Contentin, and the Averanchin; killed in treacherous ambush 17 Dec 942 by servants of Theobald of Blois and Arnulf of Flanders.  He m. (1) (Danish wife) Sprota, a Breton; m. (2) Luitgarde de Vermandois, n.i. [no issue], killed 942 by Louis, son of Charles III "the Simple", daughter of Herbert II, Count of Vermandois and Troyes.  [Ancestral Roots]

Note: There is an apparent error in Luitgarde's death date of 942.  See notes under her.  I think the clause ",killed 942 by Louis, son of Charles III "the simple" belongs to William's death and not to Luitgarde's, even though she is the subject of the sentence before & after the clause.  I am going to remove the death date as a sourced alternative.  It is an obvious error.

234946754. Harald "Blue Tooth" Gormssom King Of DENMARK was born about 913 in Denmark. He died 1 Nov 987. Harald married Gunhilda OLAFSDOTTIR [Queen Denmark. [Parents]

Harald Bluetooth, likewise, was married to a Slavic princess - Tove Mistivojsdotter.  Since he was married to Gunnhild at the time of his conversion [to Christianity], Tove was no doubt his second wife, and he probably married her after accepting Christianity. . .

A rune stone, which can still be found in eastern Jutland, bears this inscription: "Tove, daughter of Mistivoj, wife of Harald the Good Gormsson, had this memorial made for her mother."

We hear of at least three children of Harald who survived him.  One - a daughter of Queen Tove - was named Tyra.  She married Styrbjorn Starke, the exiled nephew of Sweden's king Erik Segersall (Erik the Victorious). Styrbjorn had found refuge at Harald's court and perhaps had entered into a marriage alliance with Harald at that time.  Harald Bluetooth is said to have supported Styrbjorn in his efforts to wrest Sweden away from Erik the Victorious, but the expedition failed.

Tyra and Styrbjorn became parents of Thorgils Sparkalagger ("Kicking Legs") who in turn is said to have been grandfather of the famous Sven Estridsson and thus ancestor of a great many Danish monarchs, down to the present time.  [Royal Families of Medieval Scandinavia, Flanders, & Kiev]

234946756. Judicael (Juhel) II Berenger Comte De RENNES was born about 910 in Rennes, Ille-Et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France. He died 970. Judicael married Mrs. Gerberga (Nmn-Judicael) RENNES. [Parents]

The following information is contained in a post-em by Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann@yahoo.com:

What I have in mind is her (Katherine Keats-Rohan) article on Poppa, mother of William Longsword of Normandy, which appeared in The American Genealogist a few years back.  Basically, she suggested that Juhel/Judicael Berenger was son of a Count Berenger, named by Dudo and William of Juminges, and that both this Count Berenger and William Longsword were maternal grandchildren of an Earlier Frankish Count Berenger.  I have seen it speculated (i.e. by Guillotel) that Judicael Berenger's paternal grandfather might have been a son or grandson of King Erispoe, but there was little evidence with which to place him. [Ref: TAF 21 Nov 2000]

Note: I originally had Juhel as brother of Poppa, but the above reference to Katherine Keats-Rohan indicates that Juhel is probably nephew of Poppa, being son of another Berenger Count.  The dates would certainly indicate that Juhel and William Longsword were in the same generation.

234946757. Mrs. Gerberga (Nmn-Judicael) RENNES was born about 925 in France. She died.
