RALPH DE SOMERY, son and heir. In 1194-9 5 he offered 300 marks to have seisin of the barony which was of his mother's brother, Gervase Paynel; and in the same year was returned as owing 50 l. scutage for the King's ransom. In November 1193 he had been at Speyer with the King. In 1199-1200 he was in the King's service overseas; in 1201-02 he paid a fine of 100 marks for 50 knights not to cross; in 1202/3 he was directed to take from the Jews of Domfront 50 l, to pay soldiers. By charter dated 23 August 1204 the King granted him the manor of Mere in exchange for the manor of Wolverhampton. In the same year he is recorded as having held ½ fee at Rouilli (in the Passeis). He married Margaret, sister of William (MARSHAL), EARL OF PEMBROKE, and daughter of John FITZGILBIERT the Marshal, by his 2nd wife Sibyl, sister of Patrick (DE SALISBURY), 1st EARL OF WILTSHIRE.
