Family Histories
We know that there are McElhone's today living in Canada some of whom moved from Canada to the Northern United States. The file in the link above contains McElhone's from 1835 to the turn of the century. Of course more recent members of this family are omitted to protect privacy, but if you suspect you are related, then shoot me some mail and I will check it out.
The file which started the hunt is that of the ancestors and relatives of
Lorna who came to the United States about 1740 from Ireland. We have done
lots of work on this family and had plenty of wonderful help. You will
find plenty of info in New
York .
In the mid 1800s McElhone's made their way to Australia, for the most part they were surprisingly not convicts.
One of the most active contributors has given us an outline of the family in
Magherafelt,
for some of the Northern Ireland Irish Roots of McElhone,
Another friend has provided the family roots from Dungannon, Northern Ireland
Yet another friend has provided a branch of the family from Cookstown,
Northern Ireland, and from there to the United States and other
locations.
Last but not least, our most energetic cousin has provided her family also from the Cookstown area and from there to Scotland and then Australia.
The family has contained politicians at various levels in Scotland, United States and Australia.
