Linda's Genealogy Page
Welcome to my genealogy page! This site will eventually include family trees and written family histories related to the Roco and Goldy families. For a complete list of surnames to be included on this page, click below.
This project began in 1994 with a simple desire to join the United Daughters of the Confederacy, based on the Civil War service of my great-great-grandfather Rudolph Roco. All that was required for membership was to trace one's ancestry back to a Confederate ancestor and provide documentation of the relationship. After becoming a member and seeing other members with numerous ancestor bars on their official UDC ribbons, I decided I just had to track down ALL of my Confederate ancestors. This search sparked my interest in my family history. Each newly uncovered detail raised more questions to be answered. Having been born with a stubborn streak and a love of puzzles and mysteries, I was a natural for genealogy research.
The search has been enjoyable and has often yielded interesting results. I remember the surprise I felt upon discovering that some of my ancestors were slave owners. Even more surprising was the discovery that a woman in Mississippi, who had helped research my Hutchison ancestors, had a housekeeper who was descended from the slaves owned by the Hutchisons. I also had the pleasure of “meeting” many “cousins” via the internet. Thanks to the numerous genealogy websites, I was able to contact and share information with other descendants of our ancestors. The search was also amusing at times. While searching census records, I encountered several interesting names. Crossfaced, Curious Horn and Herbert Cries for Ribs all appeared in the Oklahoma census in the early 1900's. Almond Fudge appeared in the 1850 Texas census. Ailment was a child born at sea on the voyage from Germany to Texas. One Texas couple named their daughter Automobile, and another couple, who may have been doing a little wishful thinking, named their fourth daughter Silence.
In 2001, I compiled my research into two volumes, which I self-published for family members. I have attempted to trace each family line back as far as possible. Every attempt has been made to document each fact, and any speculation has been noted as such. Please report any errors, including documentation, to me at the e-mail address below.
I have enjoyed learning about my ancestors and getting to “know” them. It is my hope that visitors to this site will acquire a greater appreciation of my family’s heritage.
