Sanda STENBERG BORING followed her husband to Minneapolis with their daughters Ruth and Hilma.

 

1885

August BORING came to the U.S. from Sweden, and settled in Minneapolis. In the years between 1868 and 1914, many Swedish immigrants came to the U.S., due to rapid population growth and economic depression in Sweden.

 

1881

Robert HENDERSON with children Mary, Robert, Thomas, Alexander and Elizabeth, came from Edinburgh, Scotland, to the U.S. on the ship Circassia, a decision precipitated by the death of Elizabeth DAVIDSON, Robert's wife, in 1877.

 

By 1860

Charles SCHRIBER came to the U. S. from Switzerland. He was living in Illinois in 1860, possibly earlier.

 

1849

Christian JOSS and Catherine STAUDENMANN and their children came from Bern, Switzerland, to Winesburg, OH. These moves may have been related to the end of the Swiss Civil War in 1848, and the resulting economic depression.

 

William SCHOLES and Ann MILLS came to Marquette Co., WI from England in a six week journey on the Marmion, with children Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Marie, Alice, and Robert. 1842

William FLINT and Mary GEDNEY came to St. Clair Co., IL from England after their marriage in 1842, arriving in New Orleans on the Oakland on June 21. Also on board were Mary's parents William and Rebecca GEDNEY and four of her siblings, William, Benjamin, Ann, and Emma.

 

1833

Henry MOZLEY and Susannah PILLEY came to Erie, PA from England with their eight children. Their granddaughter Sarah Jane later wrote "They sailed from Liverpool, England to Erie, Penn in a sailing vessel in the summer of 1833, were eight weeks and three days on the water." With them were Henry's sister Alissamon and her husband Joseph Harrison, who settled at Cleveland, OH.

 

1796

Simon and Elizabeth JAMES, with daughter Phebe, sailed from Carmarthenshire, Wales on the ship Amphion, arriving in New York City, May 14, 1796. They settled in Cambria Co., PA and later Licking Co., OH. They were part of a group of Welsh Baptist settlers.

 

About 1790

Patrick BLACK and Mary KYLE came from Ireland to Westmoreland Co., PA. Ireland was a mostly agricultural society at this time, with the land being divided into smaller plots as the population increased. Immigrating to America offered the chance of a larger farm to pass down to their children. The Blacks were Presbyterians and possibly Scotch-Irish.

 

1764 or 1765

Christian LINHART and Anna Maria HEINDLER came from the area that is now Germany to Allegheny Co., PA. (it is not known which part of Germany they came from.) Most German immigrants at this time journeyed down the Rhine and sailed from Rotterdam. They were members of the Lutheran church, and probably came to this country in search of cheaper farmland.

 

1738

Johannes Martin MANSPERGER came from Germany to Pennsylvania.

 

By 1703

George STILLMAN, Jr., in his early twenties, came to New England and settled in Westerly, RI, although his father was living in Wethersfield, CT.

 

1684

William DAVIS of Glamorganshire, Wales, came with a group of Quakers to Pennsylvania. He later became a Baptist Quaker, then a Baptist, and finally a Seventh Day Baptist.

 

1683 or 1684

George STILLMAN, Sr. and his wife Jane PICKERING, of London, sailed to New England, but Jane died on the voyage. George settled in Hadley, MA and later moved to Wethersfield, CT. His son George, Jr., remained in England until he was grown, emigrating by 1703.

Abraham DOOLITTLE, from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, to New Haven.

 

1658

Hendrick BOSCH and Anna Maria REMBACK, with their son Albert, from Amsterdam, Holland on the ship Faith.

Andrew LANGWORTHY, from Devonshire, England, to Newport, RI.

 

By 1654

James FORBES, from Scotland to Windsor, CT. He may have been a captain in the Royal Scotland Army who was banished to New England after being captured.

 

1652

Jacob Jansen VAN ETTEN, from Etten, North Brabant, Holland, to New Netherland.

 

By 1651

Robert BURDICK came from England to Massachusetts. Robert's original religious affiliation is unknown, but he soon joined the Seventh Day Baptists.

Elder John CRANDALL came from England to Newport, RI, where he joined the Baptist church.

Lodowick HOXIE was in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony. He may have come from Scotland or Holland.

John MCCOON, may have been among the Scottish prisoners transported to New England. He lived in Cambridge, MA, and was probably one of the purchasers of Westerly, RI.

 

1645 or 1646

Ann BORODELL came to New England with her husband George DENISON.

 

By 1642

Edward GRISWOLD with his wife Margaret and children George, Francis, Lydia, and Sarah, from Warwickshire, England, to New England. They settled in Windsor and later Killingworth, CT.

 

James BADCOCK, probably from Essex, England, with his wife Sarah, to Portsmouth, RI.

 

By 1641

William and Philip MEAD and their children, of Watford, Hertfordshire. They settled in Stamford, CT in 1641.

 

By 1640

Thomas WHEELER, from Kent Co., England, to Concord, MA.

 

By 1639

Adam HURD and Hannah came from England to Windsor, CT, later settling in Stratford, CT.

George and Deborah HOLMES with daughter Lydia, from Nazing, Essex, England, to Roxbury, MA.

John MOSS, from Coteridge, Wiltshire, England to New Haven, CT.

Thomas HUNGERFORD, from England to Hartford, CT.

 

By 1638

John PECKHAM came from England to Aquidneck, Rhode Island. He became a member of the Baptist church in Newport, RI.

 

1638

George BLISS and Ann SHAW moved from Northamptonshire, England to Lynn, MA. They lived in Lynn and Sandwich, MA, and were in Newport, RI by 1649.

Matthew and Jane SMITH from Sandwich, Kent, to Charlestown, MA.

 

By 1637

Thomas TRACY, from Tewksbury, Gloucestershire, to Salem, MA. He later moved to Wethersfield, CT, then to Saybrook by 1649. In 1660, he moved to Norwich, CT, where he was one of the proprietors.

By 1635

William THRALL, from England to Windsor, CT.

Thomas GUNN may have sailed on the Mary and John in 1630. In 1635, he was made a freeman of Dorchester, MA and later moved to Windsor. He died in Westfield, CT.

John CURTISS and Elizabeth HUTCHINGS, from Nazing, Essex, England, to Wethersfield and Roxbury, CT.

William ARNOLD and his family, from Ilchester, Somerset, England, to Hingham, MA. They moved to Providence, RI, in 1636.

Thomas and Martha HAZARD, from England to Boston, MA, moving to Portsmouth, RI in 1638.

1634

Robert WINCHELL of England settled in Dorchester, MA and later Windsor, CT.

 

Tacy COOPER came from England to Dorchester, MA. She was first a Baptist and later a founding member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in America.

 

Nicholas EASTON on the Mary and John probably with his sons Peter and John arrived in Ipswich, MA from Hampshire, England. Nicholas later moved to Rhode Island and was the governor from 1671-1674.

William FREEBORN and Mary WILSON with daughters Mary and Sarah, on the Francis from Maldon, Essex, to Roxbury, MA. They later moved to Boston, MA and Portsmouth, RI.

Brian PENDLETON and his wife Eleanor, were living in Watertown, MA in 1634. They later moved to Sudbury, MA, and Portsmouth, now part of New Hampshire.

George LAWTON, from England, eventually settling in Portsmouth, RI.

William and Joan CORNWALL, from England, to Roxbury, MA, later settling in Middletown, CT.

Stephen HART, with his wife and children Sarah and John, from England to Cambridge, MA, settling later in Hartford and Farmington, CT.

Samuel HUBBARD from Suffolk, England to Salem, MA. Suffolk is part of East Anglia, the area of England from which many of the Puritans came. Like his wife Tacy, Samuel was a Baptist who later became a Seventh Day Baptist.

 

1631

William DENISON and his wife Margaret CHANDLER, on the Lion with three sons, George, Edward, and Daniel, from Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England to Massachusetts. In 1643, George returned to England to fight in the English Civil War.

William CHESEBROUGH and Ann STEVENSON with four children, moved from Boston, Lincolnshire, to Boston, MA. By 1650, they had settled in Stonington, CT.

The Mary and John sailed separately from the Winthrop fleet and contained mostly passengers from the West Country.

William PHELPS and his family from Crewkerne, Somerset, to Dorchester, MA. Settled in Windsor, CT in 1635.

William GAYLORD, from Crewkerne, Somerset, to Dorchester, MA. He was a deacon of the shipboard church (from Dorset Pilgrims, by Frank Thistlethwaite).

John FINCH, probably with his wife and son John, from England to Watertown, MA.
