The Settlers of Luxemburg, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, U.S.A.;
were mostly from Luxembourg, Czech, and Germany. Luxemburg was named after the first settlers to reach the
area. Together they built a fine
community and with it started a Catholic Church.

In 1862 Rev. F.X. Pfaller; pastor of the German congregation in
Green Bay, would hold mass once a month in a small schoolhouse. In 1864 a log church was built.
For some time Luxemburg was a Mission from New Franken, Brown
County, Wisconsin. The first priest to
assume charge was Rev. Camencind, in 1869.
The first resident pastor was Rev. Videnka in 1876. In 1881 Rev. Hugo Praesser took charge. He immediately started a school, which had
only one teacher. Miss Weiss was the
first teacher at the school. In 1883,
under Rev. Praesser's guidance a new St. Mary's Church was built. The old church was remodeled into a new
school.
Rev. Praesser returned to Europe on April 28, 1884, and Rev.
John A. Drees was appointed pastor.
Services were held in the new church for the first time on January 1,
1884. The Church was consecrated by
Bishop Krautbauer on the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, on September 29,
1885.
Sometime between 1896 and 1902 a new school was built. In 1905 the church was enlarged; and was
deconsecrated by Bishop Joseph J. Fox on October 16, 1906. In 1912 a concrete floor was laid in the
basement, and in 1916 a garage was built.
Around 1958 two more rooms were added to the school, and the church
interior was redecorated. The church
was again redecorated in 1979. The most
recent remodeling to the church was during 1998 -1999 when a new receiving hall
was built onto the front of the church.
The school now in it's second building holds classes from kindergarten -
sixth grade.
In 1999; because of the shortage of priests, St. Mary’s
became linked with St. Joseph parish, in Champion, Brown County,
Wisconsin. In 2005 the linked with St.
Joseph parish was severed. St. Mary’s
was linked with Holy Trinity Parish in Casco, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. St. Joseph Parish was linked with St. Thomas
the Apostle parish in the Town of Humboldt, Brown County, Wisconsin.
