2006 proved to be a wonderful year in genealogy and the discovery of new cousins and a break in our Scott brick wall! We are thankful for new Scott related cousins: Bud, Lani, Alyce, Janice, Carl, Billie and their families!
Robert N. (or middle initial 'M') Scott was born in Clarion County, Pennsylvania in October, 1847. He married Tamerillia/Tamerilla Keister, daughter of Adam and Mary Keister of Clarion County. Robert and Tamer (as she was known) had 8 children: Otto A., William F. , Lewis, Stella, Clara, Rolla, Ellanora and Mary.
Robert's parents, are Matthew and Talitha Soliday Scott. In the 1850 census they were in East Lackawanock Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Also living with the family is Smith Scott, Matthew's brother. Matthew was born July 8, 1828 in Armstrong County and Talitha was born May 12, 1828 in Huntingdon County. Talitha's parents are Daniel and Hattie Soliday of Clarion. Daniel and Hattie Soliday had 7 children: William, Talitha, Mary, Martha, Jacob, John and Susan.
Matthew's parents were Ira Scott and Jane Smith. Ira and Jane lived in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Ira & Jane had 8 children: James, John, Ira, Matthew, Smith, George & Elizabeth. Jane Smith Scott died in 1839 and Ira remarried to Rachel McGee with whom he had 3 more children: Thomas, Nancy and Martha.
Matthew and Talitha moved to Scioto County, Ohio before 1860 and called it home for the rest of their lives. Matthew & Talitha had 7 children with 5 known: Robert, Mary, Nehemiah, Daniel, Jane and Martha.
Jane Smith Scott's parents were James Smith & Margaret Hartford.
Margaret Hartford's parents were Patrick Hartford and Jane McCalmant. Jane McCalmant's parents were James & Jean McCalmant of Strasburg, Pennsylvania. James McCalmant came from Antrim County, Ireland.
Though the connection to "Scottish" roots is still only an
assumption we still go with that theory. Someday we'll know for sure.
