The day was December 7, 1944

D-Day+1

The weather had to have been cold and damp as men of the 2 Inf. Div. came ashore on Omaha Beach. Each had to have doubts as to if they would make it or not. As men fought to gain ground they would hold up in buildings along the way. They didn't know if they would make it through the next day so many wrote notes on any thing they could and left them where they knew they would some day be found. Finding these things for some the search for the owner or their families would be long. In 1977 a roof was being repaired on a building in France, What the man found there he knew had to be returned. His dying wish was that it be returned. Several form an org. that found families had searched with no luck, Then turned over to a determand man as he was about to give up, he found us.

What a suprise it was to get his call Satarday Morning Dec.11, 2010. The following Wed. he sent an Email with pictures of my dads Mess cup and canteen. The cup has his Service number and name, also names of family menbers, and names of Men in his Platoon I would say.

I do strongly beleive that he was in the 9th Regiment, I can say almost positive. But unknown the Company or Platoon

at this time.

The 2nd Infantry Div. trained at Camp Walters Tx, then at Fort Sam Houston Tx. Then to Camp McCoy WI. for winter combat training.

They sailed from Camp McCoy to Ireland in Oct. 1943 to prepare for the Omaha Beach invasion on Dec 7th 1944.

We have to be in St. LO France for the June 6th, 2011 ceremony, and to pick up the items, not sure how we'll do this yet but I know something will come along.

Sorry this is the best I could do from just the picture. I know their are many more names. I will update as soon as I have new information.

Were are putting everything into finding more info. or maybe even someone from his company that can help us with more information.
