Richmond Co. Virginia was formed in 1692 out of Old Rappahannock. Its county seat is Warsaw. Richmond Co. Va should not be confused with the City of Richmond which is located in Henrico Co. Based on tax returns for 1782 and several years following, Professor Jackson T. Main's article in the July 1954 edition of The William & Mary Quarterly lists Richmond Co. residents Robert W. Carter, Moore Fauntleroy and John Taylor among the wealthiest and most prominient planters in Virginia.
