Thought you might like to know a little about me. Well, here I am! I was born in Smith Center, Kansas in 1940 where I attended elementary and high school. I spent two-plus years at Kansas State University and eventually graduated in 1962 from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS (now Emporia State University). I married the former Sue Warner in 1961 in Pretty Prairie, KS. We have three lovely daughters; Deborah, Pamela & Kristi, and three grandchildren; Jessica, Kayti and Kristoffer. (See Family Photos)

I started life as a 'nerd', became a 'sex symbol' and am now back to being a 'nerd'. Let me explain!

I was the little kid who loved science and math and spent a lot of time in the library. My college degrees are in Speech and Math which led me to my original occupation, a broadcaster. I spent 23 years in radio doing everything from writing commercials to sports play-by-play and, yes, as a disc jockey. That's where the 'sex symbol' part comes in. When I worked at night I got lots of calls from lonely truck-driver widows and student nurses. I could have operated one of those 900 number services if I had been smart enough to start charging!. I went from broadcasting to computer programming and reverted to being the 'nerd'. (Yes I have lots of pencils in my pocket protector). Our company writes administrative software for schools. Fund accounting, payroll, personnel, etc. for the district offices and an attendance center package that keeps grades, attendance, health records, schedules, etc.

I started doing genealogy research long before ROOTS. I even wrote a book about a triple murder in my PAYNE family called FLOWN which happened in 1903 in north-central Kansas. Posse chases, Wanted Dead or Alive posters, the whole deal. It was a labor of love, with emphasis on labor, but I sold enough copies to pay the printer so we were both happy.

Now you know more about me than you ever wanted. If you find anything of interest to you while browsing around here, contact me at my email address. Thanks for dropping by.
