THOMAS "Tom" J HEFLEY was born 25 December 1873 in Newton County, Arkansas.
He was son of Nathaniel "Natty" James and Elizabeth Tennison Hefley.
Have even seen Nathaniel James name written as "Maddy Jim" Hefley;
someone stated because he had a bad temper.
Thomas married LUELLA "Eller" GUTHRIE ON 8 July 1891 (Book D,page93)
in Newton County, Arkansas. Eller was born 25 Aug 1877 in Arkansas,
the daughter of Owen Guthrie and Mary Jane Hicks.
Eller was sister to Elizabeth Frances "Fannie" Guthrie Hefley who
married WILLIAM "BILLY"HEFLEY(son of Daniel and Eliza J. Greenhaw Hefley).
Had more information on this Guthrie Family showing them on a
census, but am unable to locate this right now.Will add information later.

They are buried in Mt. Judea Cemetery,Newton County,Arkansas.

Gussie married JAMES W NICHOLS in 1934.Gussie died 31 July 1999 with
burial in the Mt. Judea Cemetery.

Gussie Mae Nichols age 85 of Mt. Judea, Arkansas died Saturday,
July 31, 1999 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
She was born September 18, 1914 in Mt. Judea, Arkansas, the daughter
of Elmer and Viola (Heffley)Hefley.
She was a member of the Mt. Judea Church of Christ, a grocery store
proprietor, home maker and lifelong resident of Mt. Judea.
She was preceded in death by her husband James W Nichols, her son,
Charles (Junior), grandson Roger Lynn, great-granddaughter
Sierra Lynn Nichols, sister Wilsie Ann Cook; brothers Lester,
Custer and Athel Hefley.
She was married to her husband James for 53 years before he preceded
her in death in 1987.
Survivors include her grandson Rockey Gene Nichols and his daughters
Laken and Kaitlynn; granddaughters: Kim Renee Nichols Horn and her
husband Kurt and their son Kendall of Dallas, Texas; and
Robin Jeanette Nichols Holder and her husband Kevin and their
daughter Megan of Pindall, Arkansas; brothers Russell Hefley of
Pelsor and E.L. Hefley of Little Rock, and sister Lois Sain of Pelsor.
Services were Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at Mt. Judea Church of Christ
with Loyd Dodson, Jr. officiating. Burial waas in Mt. Judea Cemetery
under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Carl Louis Cook, Kevin Cook, Shelvon Gregory,
Ronnie Campbell, Dennis Sain, James Hefley, Billie Cheatham,
Charlie Hefley, Bill Hefley and Mack David Hefley.

SINA E. FORD.
Custer died 11 April 1996 at Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas,
with burial in Tarlton Cemetery in Newton County.
Custer was survived by his wife and children: 1) Billy Hefley of Dover,Arkansas

HANNIBAL - James Carl Hefley Jr., Ph.D., 73, of Hannibal, died
Saturday, March 20, 2004, at his home. He was the former writer-
in-residence at Hannibal-LaGrange College and the founder of Hannibal
A joint Celebration of Life service is planned for both Hefley and
his wife, Marti, who passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, for 11 a.m.
Saturday, June 5, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hannibal.
Pastor Mark Albee and Dr. Larry Lewis, a former president of
Hannibal-LaGrange College, who is now with California-based Mission
America Coalition, will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the
James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
Dr. Hefley was born June 2, 1930, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to
Frederick Joseph Hefley and Hester Hosannah Foster Hefley.
He grew up in Mount Judea, Ark.
He was married to Marti Lou Smedley on May 8, 1953, in New Orleans.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Cyndi Joy and
Kent Taylor, Hannibal, Cecilia Faith and Ernest Benoit, Chattanooga,
Tenn., and Cheri Grace and Steve Grubbs, Chattanooga, Tenn., eight
much-beloved grandchildren, six younger siblings, Howard Jean Hefley,
Kansas City, Mo., Mary Louise Hefley Stewart, Tullahoma, Tenn. and
Lutz, Fla., and Loucille Hefley Burdine, Freddie Hefley Walker,
Jimmie Hefley Winstead and Patsy Hefley Henderson, all of
Harrisonville, Ark.; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Hefley.
A prolific writer, teacher, pastor, editor and publisher, Dr. Hefley
was the first chronicler of the conservative movement, which changed
the course of the 16-million-member Southern Baptist Convention. His
five-volume "The Truth in Crisis" series, and "The Conservative
Resurgence in the Southern Baptist Convention" are standouts in his
five decades of writing, which include "Way Back in the Hills,"
"Way Back When," and a book he co-authored with his wife, Marti,
"Christian Martyrs of the Twentieth Century." Dr. Hefley's stories of
presidents and preachers, astronauts, athletes and activists have
found their way around the world and in many languages.
Hefley graduated from Mount Judea High School at age 13.
When he was 17, Dr. Hefley earned the bachelor of arts degree from
Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, which later granted him an
honorary doctor of letters. He earned the masters in divinity from
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate in mass
communications from the University of Tennessee.

Hester Hosannie Foster, born 10 Sept 1906, was daughter of
PULLIAM FOSTER and BARBARA JANE SUTTON. Hester died 30 April 1984
with burial in Mt. Judea Cemetery.
Frederick Joseph Hefley
Frederick Joseph Hefley, age 77 of Harrison died Saturday,
Sept 3,1988 at North Arkansas Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1911 at Mt. Judea, the son of Thomas J and
Ella Gutherie Hefley. He was a retired merchant, a prior resident of
Mt. Judea for 46 years, a well known gospel singer, a member of the
Pine Street Baptist Church in Harrison and a member of the Harrison
Senior Citizens Organization
He was also a "champion" coon hunter and his dogs won numerous
trophies at field trials across the country, including the
"All American award in 1956. He was also a avid fisherman and served
as a guide for the Lead Hill Boat Dock for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hester Hoster Hefley, two
brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include three sons; Dr James Carl Hefley of Hannibal,MO;
Howard Jean Hefley of Kansas City,Mo and Johnn Paul Hefley of
Kansas City, Mo; five daughters, Betty Lucille Burdine of Deer,
Mary Louise Stewart of Tullahoma,Tenn; Jimmy Fern Winstead of
Riverside, Calif,Freddie Gelene Walker of Harrison and
Particia Ann Gail Henderson of Independence,Mo; two brothers, Roy Lee
Hefley of Mt.Judea and Loma He3fley of Lodi,Calif; two sisteers
Alta Jane Foster of Harrison and Elsie Mae Reddell of Dover;
16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral was Tuesday, Sept 6 at 10 a.m. at Christenson Funeral Home
with the Rev.Greg Cantrell officiating. Burial was in the Mt.Judea
Pallbearers include Boyce Burdine, John Wray Jr.,Jeff Wiskur,
Clyde Hefley, Lewis Hefley, Pat Merriman,Billy Burdine,Jason Hefley,
Jeffrey Hefley, Randy Morrow, Oral Criner.
