One can see why they call these "low water bridges".When the creeks
are down, you can drive across them. When there has been lots of
rain and the creeks are "up and flowing fast" you cannot cross over
and must wait for the water to go down before you can cross.
There are very few bridges across the creeks and these "low water"
bridges take the place of bridges. Many times the water is so swift
the low water bridges are washed away.
Many Newton County cemeteries are on the other side of these low
water bridges and folks cannot visit these cemeteries when the creeks
are up. Back in the olden days when kinfolks died, you could not
get across some creeks to bury your dead, and often folks were buried
on their home places or in the nearest cemetery.
