If you have read this story before, please skim down through to see
any corrections.

Mary"Polly"BURDINE was born in 1818 in Missouri, probably St.Charles County.
She was the daughter of Amos BURDYNE and Jennie DAVIDSON(Davison).
She married JOHN LINDSEY PIERCE, Senior of Lincoln County, Missouri
on 26 November l834 in St.Charles County, Missouri.
Some people spell the name Pearce, while others spell it Pierce.
I have record of the following children:

(l)JOSEPH PIERCE born 20 June l836 in Arkansas.
Joseph served in Co. K & B of First Arkansas Cavalry (Union) during
Civil War and drew a Civil War Pension (this is where I get most of
my family information.
Joseph married :
(l) NANCY HAMPTON about l860 in Newton County,Arkansas
I believe Nancy Hampton Pierce was sister to Martha Hampton who
married David Flood, son of Nathan Flood.

Children were:
(1)MARGARET EMELINE "Tony" PIERCE, born 20December 1865
in Newton County, Arkansas.
She married JOHN BARNES on 8 October 1885 in Newton County.
John was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth EDDINGS BARNES.
It is thought they had one child that died as an infant.
John Barnes died in 1919 and is buried in Carver Cemetery in Newton
County, Arkansas
After John Barnes died, Margaret married TOM EDDINGS in 1924 at Coalgate, Oklahoma.
Tony Pierce Barnes Eddings died on 8 August 1957 at Coolidge,
Arizona where she had gone to live near her adopted daughter
Rebecca Sarah Annie SMITH EDDINGS (daughter of Nathaniel Smith
and Mary Ellen Pierce Smith whose parents died after having several
children in 1892 in Newton County, Arkansas.
See the "Nathaniel Smith Story" on this website.

I also believe Joseph and Nancy were the parents of:

(4)ALLIE (A.J.) PIERCE born 1875 who married
LEVI TORIX on 5 April l89l in Newton County, Arkansas.
Levi Torix was son of Peter Torix and Mary Ann Flud Brewer Torix
Levi obtained a divorce from Allie (Adeline?)Pierce on the grounds of
adultery in January 1896. They had two sons

James married :

and they lived together as man and wife until 5th of June 1862.
James filed for divorce on grounds of adultery. "said defendant
was guilty of adultery subsequent to said marriage", Page 29 of
Chancery Court Records of Newton County.

NOTE:
Charlotte OWENS PIERCE later married Alvester(Alvestus) Monroe Stacey
l3 June l875 in Newton County, Arkansas.
Found Alvestus Monroe and Charlotte Stacey on the 1880 Johnson County
Arkansas Census at Pilot Rock Township. There were no children listed
with them, so that proves to me that Charlotte did not have any
children by her first marriage to James Pierce

I thought, at first, there may have been a child Mary Ellen Pierce
by this marriage, but further information was found to change this
theory. (See Nathaniel Smith Story).
Mary Ellen Pierce was daughter of Morgan Pierce and Martha Hines.
Divorce filed 18 April 1867.
James Pierce's divorce from Charlotte Owens was granted on
23 March 1868 (page 32)and James married :
(2) RACHEL OWENS on 27 March l868 in Newton County,Arkansas.
Rachel was daughter of Richard Owens and Emma J. Moody

NEW FINDINGS:
Mary Ellen Smith WAS NOT the daughter of James Pierce and
Charlotte OWENS as once thought.
Mary Ellen was the daughter of MORGAN PIERCE and MARTHA JANE HINES
of Lincoln County, Missouri.
See the NATHANIEL SMITH Story

MARY PIERCE:
Also would like to point out that MARY PIERCE born l830 in Missouri was the mother of SARAH J PIERCE who married NATHANIEL BURDINE.
Sarah was Mary's daughter before Mary married JOHN OWENS.
I do not know the relationship of Benjamin Pierce and Mary Pierce to the other Pierce Family members.
They were probably from Lincoln or St. Charles County, Missouri area

ALSO, MORGAN PIERCE, the father of Mary Ellen Pierce Smith, was somehow related to this Pierce family. Morgan Pierce married Martha Jane Hines in 1846 in Lincoln County, Missouri.
See the "NATHANIEL SMITH STORY" on my website.

There was also a GEORGE PIERCE who married ELIZABETH BURDINE. They apparently lived in Lincoln County, Missouri. Am trying to get more information on George Pierce also.
