JOHN THOMAS PEOPLES was born 3 May 1863 in Paragould, Green County,Arkansas, the son of WYATT M PEEBLES NO. 1. (born 1802 in Virginia) and Martha ANDREWS.
Some families use the name PEOPLES while others use the spelling of PEEBLES.

Wyatt M PEOPLES NO. 1 was son of Herbert PEEBLES and grandson of Jehu PEOPLES, JUNIOR.

Only Wyatt PEEBLES NO. 1 came to Arkansas.

John Thomas PEOPLES had a brother Wyatt Savage PEEBLES who came to Newton County, Arkansas and married Sophia Ann Burdine on 26 March 1905.
Tom Peoples had several half-brothers.

JOHN THOMAS PEOPLES married:
(1)ANEY ELLISON on 4 January 1880 in Newton County, Arkansas.
When he was asked about this first wife, he just got up and walked away; refused to talk about her.
John T Peoples came to Newton County ,after his father died, to live with an aunt, Rebecca Andrews, who had married JOHN VAUGHN and who was living on what is now known as Judea Mountain or Redrock Point, in 1880.
John Thomas Peoples' mother was Martha Andrews, daughter of Phillip and Rebecca Smelser Andrews.
John Thomas "Tom" PEOPLES married:
(2) ELIZABETH BURDINE on 5 March 1885 in Newton County.
Elizabeth "Bett" Burdine was born 4 January 1860 (on the 1860 census).
Elizabeth Burdine was the daughter of James Critter Burdine and Nancy Jane Flood Bray Burdine.

John Thomas"Tom" PEOPLES died 25 August 1949.
Elizabeth BURDINE PEOPLES died 2 September 1936.
They are buried in Smith Cemetery, Vendor (Newton County, Arkansas).

JOHN THOMAS PEOPLES and Elizabeth BURDINE were the parents of:
(1) REBECCA JANE PEOPLES, born 15 Dec 1884 who married MELVIN FOSTER on 7 May 1908 in Newton County.
Their children:
....(i) EVA MAE FOSTER, born 1910 who married AL VERDUN.

....(iv) BESSIE FLORENE FOSTER, born 1914, who married JESSE B GHROMLEY.

.....(vii) MARY ETTA LAURA FOSTER, born 1920 who married ERVIN FLOYD MILLER.

(2)MARY PARALEE PEOPLES, born 13 June 1886, Newton County, who married SAM PEEL MAXWELL(MAXVILLE) 27 September 1906 in Newton County.
Paralee died in 1970 at Delano, California and is buried in the Delano Cemetery there.
Sam died in 1980 and is also buried in Delano, California Cemetery.
Their children:
(i) Rilby Mae Maxville, born 1908 who married RANZY LEE FOSTER.
She died and is buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma Military Cemetery.

(ii) Sylvia Ray Maxville, who married(1) GEORGE SHULTZ and (2)RAY HOLMES. She lived at Paradise, California.

(iii)Reba Faye Maxville, born 10 June 1914 who married OTHA ERVIN LOSEY.

(iv) Rilla Gaye Maxville, married(1)ERNEST CALLAHAN and (2) HUSTON CASTLE.

(v) Clola Maxville (male)
He married (1)ELSIE COOPER (2) SHIRLEY (mnu) and JUNE(mnu).

(vi) James Clilla "Bud" Maxville, lived Lufkin, Texas.

(3)JAMES "Jim" WILLIAM PEOPLES, born 4 August 1888 in Newton County,Arkansas who married SARAH KATHERINE "Kate" THORNE on December 10, 1921.(Catherine born May 17, 1897 in Bandera County, TX)

My grandmother had been previously married to ? MASHBURN, and had one son at the time of their marriage, John Eugene Murray (Gene) Mashburn (married to Geraldine Mashburn—Uncle Gene died August 29, 1982, and is buried in Longview, TX). Uncle Gene and Aunt Geraldine had no children.

John William and Catherine Peoples Children were:
(i) Velma Florine Peoples Yates Nerren born in 1923 who lives in Lufkin, TX. Aunt Florine is also a widow of both Jim Yates and Doyle Nerren.

(ii)Nina Mae (born 1925) Peoples Baker(died in a traffic accident—buried in Lufkin, TX)

(iii)Jimmie Catherine Peoples Smith (May 17, 1928)—widow of Leo Smith, and she lives in Groves, TX

(iv)Mary “l’il Doll” Elizabeth (born 1930)—widow of Ezra D. (called E.D.) Foreman and lives in Port Arthur, TX

(v)James (Jay) William Peoples, Jr.—lives in Carter Lake, IA. (born 1932)

(vi)Sarah Alice (born 1933)—lives with husband Clem Johnson in Lufkin, TX

(vii) Alma Ruth Peoples Walter, born 1941, lives Longview, Texas

John William Peoples died August 29, 1969 in Lufkin, Texas.
Sarah Catherine Peoples died July 15, 1987 in Lufkin, Texas).

(4) WILLIS FRANK PEOPLES "Monkey Frank", born 1 August 1890 Newton County, Arkansas.
married FANNY LEOMA SMITH on 12 Oct 1913 in Newton County.

Willis and Fannie Peoples' children were:
(i)James Thomas Peoples, born 1914. He never married.
.......Was in the CCC Camp at Ft.Gibson,Oklahoma. He died in 1943 and is buried in Holland Cemetery (where?).

(ii) Lilburn Henry Peoples, born 18 February 1916.
Married RUBY MAE PETTY on 16 October 1937 (where?).
Lilburn lives in Tracy, California
Lilburn Peoples has a bible with childrens names listed.

(iii) Elma Nola Peoples, born 1919.
Married CHARLES WOODROW MOSS

(iv)Willard Peoples, born 1920. Died young

....(v) Hillard Peoples, born 1920. Died young.

....(vi) Velma Marie Peoples, born 1922.
She married LAWRENCE SILBY MOSS. She died in childbirth.

....(vii) Thelma Juanita Peoples, born 1925.
She married (1) OSCAR LEE RHODES and (2) DONALD MERDINGER.
She died March 1998 at Manteca, California of lung cancer.
This author attended her funeral. Ishmael "Big Jim" Peoples drove me to the funeral in Manteca, California.

(viii)Johnnie Louise Peoples, born 5 July 1928.
Married WALTER THEODORE DWYER . She died 10 June 1992 at Vacaville, California. Was she murdered by her husband?

(ix) Mary Lucille Peoples, born 4 Sept 1931.
Married HAROLD W. WILLENBORG.
She died February 1994 of a brain tumor and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Stockton, California.

(x)Andy Clayton Peoples. Born 23 December 1934. My notes state he was also named Wyatt Manuel? Andy lives in Galt, California
He married (1) KATHERINE FOSTER and (2) CAROLYN MASTEL

(xi) Bety Melvina Peoples. Born 5 July 1938.
She married C J POTTS.

Willis Frank Peoples died 31 January 1979
Fanny Leoma Smith Peoples died in 1973 in Modesto, California.
They are buried in Tracy, California.

(5) SIMON JEFF PEOPLES
born 7 January 1892 in Newton County, Arkansas.
Married EMMA LEE CARTER on 21 February 1918 in Newton County.
Emma Lee Carter was the daughter of James C Carter and Mary Charlotte Lawson (Ruben Lawson Jr. and Susan Williams Family).
Emma Carter's brothers and sisters were:
Martha "Mattie" Carter who married Ben Vanderpool
Josie Carter Reddell Sloan
Fred Carter who married Arple Reddell
Dent Carter
Offie Carter(male) who married Myrtle (mnu).
Chester Carter who married Bessie Smith.

Simon's children were:
(i) Jeff Peoples, born November 1918. Lived three days.

(ii) infant boy, unnamed. Born December 1919. Lived three days

(iii)Coy L Peoples, born 1 May 1921. Married RUBY ANDREWS.

(iv)Lenora Peoples, born Spring 1922. Died of croup few days old

(v) Ishmel W "Big Jim" Peoples, born 24 July 1924.
Married CORETTA BARGER MUNNERLYN in 1953 in Stockton, California

(vi)James T (J.T.) Peoples, born 29 September 1926.
Married GEORGIA SMITH. James died in 1987.

(vii) Emogene Peoples, born 3 October 1928.
She married MELVIN BATEMAN. She died in 1996.

(viii) Archie Peoples, born 25 January 1932.
Married EDNA WATSON. Archie lives at Westpoint, California

(ix) Pauline Peoples, born 23 February 1934.
She married RICHARD DAVIS

(x) Betty Mae Peoples, born 30 May 1939.
She married BOBBY L. SMITH on 25 August 1956.

(xi) Jonnny Lee Peoples, born 17 December 1942.
He married CAROL WOODS.

This author visited with Emma Carter Peoples about 1977 and she gave me much of this information.
Simon Jeff Peoples died 9 January 1960 at French Camp, California.
Emma Lee Carter Peoples died on 10 April 1979.
Believe they are buried in the French Camp, California Cemetery.

(7)ANNA MAE PEOPLES
Born 20 May 1895 in Newton County, Arkansas.
She married ELDREIDGE DAVIS on 20 February 1913 in Newton County.
Eldreidge Davis was the son of Daniel and Nancy Crashaw Davis.
Children:
(1) Ruby Ree Davis, born 30 Jan 1914. Married FOREST VAN ZANDT BROWN
(2) Effie Lee Davis, born 16 August 1915. Married ELVER SHATSWELL.

(3) Everett Cecil Davis, born 14 April 1918 Newton County.
He married MARIE ELLEN SWAGER

(4) Warden Herman Davis, born 15 September 1920.
He married CLESSIE EMOGENE MARTIN on 10 September 1944 in Newton County, Arkansas.

(8) WALTER MITCHELL PEEBLES, born 9 February 1897 at Log Hall, Newton County, Arkansas.
Walter married DOROTHY COLLINS on 21 October 1923 in Newton County.
Dorothy Collins was the daughter of John Dave Collins and Zelphia Jane "Ludie" Reed Collins.
Children were:
(i) Jewell Peebles.Born 1924. Died in 1936 and is buried in Smith Cemetery, Newton County.

(ii) Golden Peebles, born 1925. Married ERNEST J MERRILL

(iii) Boyd Peebles, born 1927.
He married (1) JOY COLLINS and (2) LARITA TURNER.

(iv) Doyle Peebles, born 1929. He married DONNA (mnu).
Doyle died in 1983.

(v) George Munford Peebles, born 1931
He married (1)EDMONA LADD and (2) CARMINE GREEN.

(vi) Gufford Clifford Peebles. He married FRANCES MORRIS

(vii) J. D. Peebles. Married MURRILL GOSSAG.

Walter Mitchell Peebles died in 1981 in Delano, California.
