Ashley, Burdine, Jackson, Nichols Researchers WELCOME!!
If you are here to just collect names to add to your website so that
your count will be higher, go someplace else to copy your information.
My pet peeve in genealogy are those of you on the Internet who just
copy someone else's hard-earned research without even ASKING permission.
The word ASK is not in your vocabulary.
Received a letter from a lady in Oklahoma in which she included a
printed page from "The History of Sequoyah County,Oklahoma 1828-1975"
Sallisaw,Oklahoma which contained information about John Amos and
William Joseph Jackson, sons of John J Jackson (grandsons of Jacob
Jackson and Nancy Burdine).
You will remember that Nancy Burdine Jackson Ashley was the daughter
of Amos Burdyne (born 1780 Culpepper County,Virginia--son of
John Burdyne(Burdine) and Betty Dicken(s) and grandson of Richard and
Catherine Tanner Burdine).
Amos had married Jennie Davison 26 September 1803 in Washington
County,Kentucky and they had gone to live in St.Charles County, Missouri
sometime around 1811.Amos Burdyne lived in Missouri at the time of the New Madrid
Earthquake in 1811.
Amos was living with a daughter Jane Burdine Lucas in 1850 in Ozark
County, Missouri, age 70.
His wife Jennie Davidson Burdyne had died in St. Charles County, Missouri
in 1832 of cholera.
If you will remember in my 17July1998 Kinfolks article about
Nancy Burdine Jackson Ashley, I listed her children as:
(1) John J Jackson born 28 Feb 1838 St.Charles County,Missouri.
He married Rosana Wright on 1 Jan 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas.
She was daughter of Carter Wright and Dicey--(full blooded Miami Indian.
The Jackson family was a migratory family. They migrated in a westward
circle from Taney County,Missouri in the 1880s.
They journeyed to Dodge City, Kansas--Wyoming's South Pass,
Salt Lake City,Utah-- the Colorado mines, New Mexico, Texas and back
to Miami, Indian Territory where land was leased for the year's corn
crop. They camped among the Indians of the area.
While traveling back to Missouri to complete the eight-year journey,
John J Jackson died at Joplin,Missouri in 1889.
Rosana tried to draw her husband's Civil War Pension (he fought for
Confederacy in Civil War and was wounded through the jaw) but her
widow's pension was denied.
John J Jackson died on 19 Nov 1889 at Joplin(Jasper County)Missouri.
Rosana Wright Jackson died on 26 December 1892 at Huzzah Creek,
Boone County,Arkansas while camped there. She was taken to the
farmhouse of James Franklin Mitchell and is buried in a nearby cemetery.
Nancy Burdine Jackson divorced Jacob Jackson in 1842 in a St.Louis,
Missouri court stating Jacob had disappeared. They had been married on
6 July 1837 at St.Charles County,Missouri.
She had a daughter Catherine Jackson born 1842 in Missouri--a son
James Jackson born 1843 in Missouri and a son Amos Ashley born 1851 in
Arkansas by her second husband, Mr. Ashley.

Amanda Cora Brown Nichols was much younger than Clifton Nichols.
Clifton had married first to Mary Ann Davis and had children by her.
Clifton and Amanda Cora Brown Nichols had six children.
Amanda Cora Brown Nichols died in 1903 in Searcy County,Arkansas.
NOTE:I stated in the earlier story about Nancy Burdine Jackson Ashley
that Dollie married Frank Reynolds. After I received the information
about the Jackson family living in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma and saw
the name Jewell, I thought "Could Jewell Nichols Clark be related to
this family"??
I quickly got out my Clifton Nichols file.
Much to my joy, it turned out that Jewell Nichols Clark of Pocola,
Oklahoma is INDEED RELATED TO BOTH THESE FAMILIES.
Wait until she gets a copy of this article.
This possibly makes her blood kin to my Flood children on both the
Burdine and Nichols sides.
Had written previously to Jewell and was helping her with the
Clifton Nichols family.

Clifton (John Clifton)Nichols was also the father of Emeline Tennessee
Nichols who married Phillip Hefley and the famous preacher Dan Hefley
was their son.
"It's A Small World After All" goes that little song.
Feel like I have won an "Oscar" in Genealogy(at least an "Emmy") when
I helped trace these families as far back as Richard and Catherine
Burdine in 1760s of Bromfield Parish, Culpepper County, Virginia.
