THOMAS S. "Doc" and MARY ELIZABETH YORK HARRISON FAMILIES

Collateral families of Allen, Aydelott,Criner, Kelly, Norton, Scott,
and York Families

Most information sent to me by Kathy Scott.
Thank you Kathy Scott for sharing this information with us.
Her documentation is in the End Notes
I have added a few notes on these families.
It is hoped other Harrison researchers will share their information
with us.
If you have any Harrison family pictures, could you share the
pictures with us also?

Evelyn,
Would love it if we could have a story on the HARRISONs.
I had been virtually stumped on them for years and recently, via a
story in the Boone County Family History Book and a posting on
Harrison-York on GenForum have circumstantially broken through the
log jam. Maybe some day I will have some hard documentation.

The HARRISON and YORK family intermarried.
First of all, Thomas S. "Doc" HARRISON married Mary Elizabeth YORK,
daughter of Pleasant YORK and Sarah V. WELBORN.
Secondly, Mary's sister, Susan Alice YORK, married James Solomon
HARRISON, "Doc's" nephew.
James Solomon HARRISON was the son of David Crockett HARRISON,
brother
to Thomas S. "Doc" HARRISON.
Thomas S. HARRISON migrated his family from White County, TN to
neighboring DeKalb County, TN between 1870-1880.
In the early 1880's they removed to Harrison, Boone County, AR with
a primary emphasis on their children's schooling.
Somewhere between then and 1900, they moved to Vendor, Newton
County, AR where Thomas owned and operated a grist mill.
After Thomas' death in 1904, his son, P.T., ran the mill and also
served for a few years as County Judge.
My father-in-law, Claude Jackson SCOTT, loved to recite the story about
how he married Patsy Rae HARRISON, P.T.'s daughter.
Claude and Patsy met in Kansas City, MO while living in the same
rooming house.
Patsy had decided to return to Vendor. Claude didn't like it one bit,
so decided to go after her. P.T. wouldn't let Patsy return to
Kansas City without being married and wanted to make sure Claude's
intentions were honorable, so he married them on the spot.

Lester NORTON (son of Horace Clinton NORTON and Martha Jane TAYLOR)
was a witness for their marriage.
Lester is also related to this family via his wife, Mary Ann AYDELOTT,
daughter of Rachel Jackson HARRISON and James Daniel AYDELOTT.
Rachel and P.T. were brother and sister.

I am sending you the descendants of the first 2 generations.
I have more if you are interested.
I will forward to you in subsequent e-mails a copy of
the transcribed story on Adeline (Harrison) KELLY's family,
P.T.'s sister, from the Boone County, AR Family History Book.

died April 26, 1985, Kansas City,Jackson County, Missouri.
Notes for PATRICIA RAY HARRISON:
Patsy is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
Patsy served in the AFL union for the hotel and restaurant workers in
Kansas City, Missouri. In fact, she is pictured in the 1938 Labor Day
parade union photo.
During what was to be "retirement" years, Claude and Patsy purchased a
small motel in Berryville,Arkansas. Retirement didn't last long, and
they returned to Kansas City and their former occupations (stone mason
and waitressing,respectively).
Patsy had a feisty personality, was less than 5 feet tall and
probably did not weigh 100 pounds. But boy-oh-boy,could her bark
"bite". She was a fantastic cook, and to this day, I am still trying
to cook for my husband the way "Mom" did it; a task I shall never
accomplish!
Notes for CLAUDE JACKSON SCOTT:
Claude enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War I.
His serial number was 1-461-565. Attempts to obtain copies of
his military or pension papers have been unsuccessful due to loss of
federal records in a St. Louis fire.
Claude never saw any active duty because of being stationed in a training
command.
During World War II, Claude wanted to reenlist but was too old.
Because the construction industry came to a halt during the war, he
drove a truck deliving groceries to area merchants.
Claude is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
Despite Claude's adversities as a youth, he grew up to be quite a
responsible man, husband and father. He continued in the family trade
of stone mason and earned quite a reputation in the construction
industry in Kansas City. Claude's work had a distinctive style, and
one could still recognize his work by evaluating homes built during
that period today.
Claude's favorite past time was to antagonize his wife, Patsy.
He would do something that would set off Patsy's short temper and then
would laugh like the cartoon dog character, Dasterdly. In fact, his
son, Ronald, has developed that same laugh and grows to look more like
his father every day.
Patsy, on the other hand, would cuss about the "old man" and then look
at her watch and realize that she must return to her duties to ensure
that he was "fed and watered". What a pair the two of them were.
