Photo by Evelyn Flood (c)Copyright 1992

Many of my stories were sent to the Newton County Times Newspaper for my Kinfolks articles. So if the "Times" is mentioned, that is what is referred to in my stories.
Since sending in these stories have found out much more information on all these families.
Will write about them in later stories.
See "John Thomas Peoples Story" for more Peoples information.

This is the story of Elizabeth Burdine Peoples as I know it.
Elizabeth was born on 4 January 1860 in Newton County, Arkansas to James "Critter" Burdine and Nancy Jane Flood Bray Burdine.
Her tombstone gives the date as 1861, but she was on the 1860 census.
Jim "Critter" Burdine was the son of Amos Burdyne and Jennie Davidson (Davison).

Nancy Jane Flood had first married Mr. Bray and had two children:
(1) James Bray (nothing further known) and
(2) Mary Margaret Bray who married JOHN L BURDYNE, son of Joseph

After Mary Margaret's death, John L Burdyne married MARY ISABELLE FLUD (daughter of James Flud and Caroline Peoples.

Anna Mae was such a jovial person.
Visited her home several times on my trips to Arkansas and recorded her stories.
She told me many funny stories while I was visiting her
Hope to share some of them with you in later issues of Kinfolks.
Anna Mae died on 29 July 1991 at the age of 96, and is buried in Smith Cemetery at Vendor (formerly called Log Hall)Arkansas.
What a wonderful legacy she left for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Would like to invite anyone to write in your favorite story about Anna Mae Davis.
See the front page "A Good Neighbor Is Worth More Than Money".....
I am sure she is smiling down on us, we who are left here on this earth. She loved company and loved to cook.
Know many people who remember her so well.

(8) Walter Mitchell Peoples
b: 9 Feb 1897 at Vendor,
Arkansas married DOROTHY COLLINS on 21 October 1923,
Page 307 of the Newton County Marriage Records.Nothing further known
at this time.
John Thomas Peoples died on 25 August 1949 and is buried in Smith
Cemetery at Vendor.

Elizabeth Burdine Peoples died on 2 September 1936 at Vendor and is also buried in the Smith Cemetery at Vendor, Arkansas (Newton County).

On the 1900 Newton County, Arkansas census the family is living in White Township, visit #200-211. John L Lucas, a nephew, age 11 is living with the family.
Nancy Jane Flood Bray Burdine was also living with the family, listed as born January 1824 (but she was born December 1833 per her father Nathan Flood's Civil War Pension Record). She is listed as age 76,
married 41 years, had 5 children with just 1 living. She stated she was born in Missouri, her father in Virginia and her mother in Kentucky.

If Nathaniel Flood (her father) has just been mustered in when he joined the Union Army during the Civil War, we might know exactly where he was born--but most records indicate he was born in North Carolina.

Mary Polly Jones, the mother of Nancy, was actually born in Missouri per all other records.

Am sure others can add stories and additions to this family.

Have a record of Simon Jeff and Emma Carter Peoples children given to me by Emma. One of Simon and Emma's sons has lived in Stockton for many years. My son, Lee, goes to have coffee nearly every morning at a coffee shop called T's and he met Ismael Peoples there and came home and told me that Ismael remembered our great great grandfather George "Uncle Wash" Flood. I met Ismael Peoples later on.
Ismael took me to a funeral and I met many of the Peoples families there.

Rebecca Jane Peoples Foster's daughter Eva Verdun has written to me and given me some stories to write about. She is the person who originally sent in the "Belled Buzzard" article to the Newton County Times that ended in the story I wrote for the Times.

The Floods are related to so many Newton County people.
