George DEAL

   Another name for George was George DIEHL.

  General Notes:

"Two half brothers named "Diehl" came from Germany - sometime, I think, in the early part of the 18th century. Settled in "Friend's Cove", Bedord Co., Pa. The one brother kept the German "Diehl" as has also his descendants. The other brother changed the spelling to "Deal". The latter was the grandfather of our grandfather. I think his name was "George". He had one son "Henry" and one "George". I never heard of any other children. The latter was our great grandfather. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Was one of the soldiers who hid in the swamp when "Putnam rode down the stone steps". He married "Margaret Myers" who came from Germany when four years old. He lived to be quite old. Their children:

Philip - who lived in Illinios
Joseph - who lived in Friend's Cove
Margaret - out west, "Aunt Peggy"
Mary - Aunt Polly Ashcrome
Elizabeth - Betsy Franks
Catherine - Katy Deal

Peter "Morgart" married Christiana "Hess" in Va. (Their ancestors had come from Germany). Moved to Bedford Co. Pa.
I think "Morgart" was the German way of spelling "Morgan" for all his grandsons named after him were called "Morgan". Their children:

This account of our "Deal" and "Morgan" ancestry I have written from what I remember of mother telling us. some of it may be mistaken about.
