Emma was the daughter of John W. McElfish (born 12 December 1808, died 15 March 1885) and Rachel Middleton. ----- Emma was a most excellent Christian woman of kind heart and generous disposition. She enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. MRS. EMMA CESSNA One of the Highly Esteemed Woman of Rainsburg Died Thursday
Emma, the good wife of George W. Cessna, of Rainsburg, who was born on april 15, 1844, died Thursday, January 5, 1905, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 20 days. The deceased was a daughter of John and Rachel McElfish, of Allegany county, Md., and was united in marriage with George W. Cessna, one of the well known citizens of Rainsburg about forty two years ago. She is survived by eight children, four daughters, one the wife of Prof. D. C. Stunkard, of Bedford; one the wife of Dr. A. C. Brewer, of Baltimore; one the wife of cashier William T. Johnson, of Hyndman, and Miss Anna at home. Four sons, Homer Cessna, of Thomas, W. Va.; Attorney Howard Cessna, of Bedford; Dr. Murray Cessna, of Baltimore, and Walter Cessna, at home, who with the devoted husband mourn the great loss they have sustained in this sad bereavement. The deceased was a most excellent christian women of kind heart and generous disposition, a faithful wife, a loving and devoted mother and a kind and considerate neighbor, who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Protestant church and died with the assurance of an inheritance in the "House of many mansions." The friends and relatives will assemble at the home of the deceased Sunday morning at eleven o'clock; the remains will thence be taken to the Methodist Protestant church near Rainsburg where appropriate services will be held conducted by the pastor, Rev. Donalson, of the Clearville circuit, assisted by Rev. Jones, of the Rainsburg Lutheran church. The deceased has been ill for the past three months, though only bedfast for about ten days having stayed the ravages of the grim destroyer by the excercise of the wonderful will power of which she was so largely possessed.
