Donald J. Bernhardt, 61, of Festus, Mo., died May 13, 2001, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, Mo.
Born March 7, 1940, at Marion, he was the son of John and Fern (Morgart) Bernhardt.
Bernhardt was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post 3777, United Steel Workers Union, and Redeemer Lutheran Church, DeSoto, Mo.
Survivors include two daughters, Mindy Bernhardt of Leander, Texas, and Dona JoAnn Bernhardt of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Donald Bernhardt Jr., of Barnhart, Mo.; five brothers, Bill of Oklahoma, John of Wichita, Dale of North Carolina, Bob of Nebraska, and Harry of Paige, Texas; three sisters, Velma Joyce Bernhardt of Las Vegas, Nev., Linda Woodard of Wichita, and Betty Nave; and a granddaughter, Amber Bernhardt.
Funeral services were held May 17 at Vinyard Funeral Home, Festus, Mo., with the Rev. G. Michael Rose officiating.
Burial will be at a later date a National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Mo.
A memorial fund has been established with Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund, DeSoto.
