enhart| Family Origin and Deepest Root
The oldest known ancestor is Hanss Velten Lenhardt of Chumbt. Chumbt was supposedly a small village near Zweibrucken, Germany. Immigrant Ancestors On September 15, 1748, Johann Peter Lenhart arrived at Philadelphia on the ship "Two Brothers" with his wife, Maria Margaretha, and at least seven children: Maria Magdalena, Johann Philip, Johann Jacob, Johann George, Christopher, Heinrich, and Wilhelm. Family History Johann Peter Lenhart was born May 4, 1708 in Horn Hunsrueck, Germany. He emigrated to America in 1748 and arrived in Philadelphia, on the ship, "Two Brothers". In March, 1749, he received a patent for a tract of land in Philadelphia County, Moyamensing Township, Pennsylvania. This land is located in what is now Berks County. Johann Peter moved from Berks County to nearby York County sometime between 1758 and 1767. Later, in 1771, he conveyed his land in Berks County to his son Jacob Lenhart. This land is now the town of Lenhartsville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Johan Peter Lenhart was the grandson of Hanss Velten Lenhardt of Chumbt. It appears that the Lenharts lived and worked at the Chumbt Monastery on Monastery Lands, near Zweibrucken, Germany. Name Origin Lenhart is a form of the name Leonard, and is therefore a patronymic. Other spellings of this name, but not necessarily associated with this family, include Leonard, Lenhardt, Lennert, and Lenard. |
