II. JAMES ENGLISH, JR., second child of James and Elizabeth Denton English, was born in 1788 in English's Ferry, New River, Virginia.  James was a preacher in Tennessee.  He migrated to Texas in 1824 where he continued his ministry.  James settled in Panola County, Texas.  Later moved to Houston County, Texas.  He gave land for the English Cemetery located east of Crockett, Texas.  He was active in early petitions for changes in Legislature. James also had land holdings in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas, adjoining that of his brother Jonas.   A worn faded  hand-written document, No. 33 found in the Archives State Library states that Petitioner, James English, November 18, 1859, says that by a new survey it was that 1,800 acres of land that he had thought belonged to him, was found by the new survey to belong to his brother, Jonas English;  that thereby he lost 1,800 acres of land, and asks the Legislature for relief.  File Box no. 25, Letter No. E. Says the land owned by him in Polk County, known as the John Crippin League, is recorded to him by deed.   Crocket, Nov. 18 1859   /s/ James English.
