Our Lost and Missing Dickeys
Who?
These people are still lost or missing. We're sure most lived full lives, married, had children -- but for some reason, they've been just beyond our grasp. We'd be very grateful to learn anything more about them.
DICKEY
We are missing the parents of our 3g grandfather, Peter, who said he was born in 1749 in Boston, Suffolk Co. MA.
A. DICKEY
According to an 1894 letter written by their daughter, Almeda, Walter (b. 1793) and Sarah Resseguie (b. 1800) Dickey had a family of six -- two girls, and four boys. We were aware of Mary Elizabeth, Almeda, Urbane Burrows, Danford and Nelson Resseguie. There is a male A. on the 1860 census (though we do understand relationships were not indicated). He is listed as 22, but since Nelson's age was off by three years, his birth year could be 1837 - 1841. He'd have been of prime Civil War age.
ADAM DICKEY
Walter Dickey (b. 1793 CT) served in the War of 1812 in the 1st Regiment (Brainerd's) Connecticut Militia. Adam Dickey, whom we do not know, served in this regiment, too. (Sometimes close counts.) The only other Dickey to serve CT in this war was Walter's brother, William Cushman (b. 1791 CT).
DORIS DICKEY
Doris Dickey, born 1902/3, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the youngest child of Nelson Resseguie (b. 1839) and Clara McManus (b. 1878) Dickey. She appears with her mother, half-sisters, Daisy and Delta, and stepfather, Frank Entrot, on the 1910 census. On the 1920 she is with Clara and Frank as Doris Entrot; on the 1930 ahe is gone.
IRVIN E. or M. DICKEY
Irvin E. Dickey, born 1899, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the youngest son of Nelson Resseguie (b. 1839) and Clara McManus (b. 1878) Dickey. He appears with them on the 1900 census, in Chester Springs Soldiers' Orphans School in 1910 and in a military hospital (Fort McHenry, Baltimore MD) in 1920. He died in 1945 and is buried in Meyers Cemetery, Herrick Center.
JAMES M. DICKEY
James McManus Dickey, born 1892, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the eldest son of Nelson Resseguie (b. 1839) and Clara McManus (b. 1878) Dickey. He entered the Soldiers' Orphans School program in 1902 at Chester Springs while Nelson was still alive. James, age 17, appears as a student at the Scotland School, just north of Chambersburg in Franklin Co., on the 1910 census.
LUCINDA M. DICKEY or DOYLE
Lucinda M. Dickey was born June 1892, to David E. (b. 1872) and Emeline Doyle Dickey, probably in Susquehanna County. Her grandparents were Nelson Resseguie and Martha Powell Hughes Dickey of Clifford, and William O. and Mary E. Stone Doyle of Ararat Her paternal great grandparents were Walter and Sarah Resseguie Dickey, and Thomas L. and Lucinda Dickey Doyle. We have no further information on Lucinda.
LUCY ALMEDA DICKEY HAYS
Lucy Almeda Dickey was born 1841 in Scott Centre, Wayne Co., PA, the fourth child of William Cushman (b. 1791) and Eliza A. Smith (b. 1806) Dickey. Apparently known as Almeda, she appears on the Lee County IA census in 1860. In 1871, Bates County MO, she married Henry Ruth(erford?) Hays of whom we've learned nothing. They do not appear on the 1880 census or later.
MARY ELIZABETH DICKEY
Mary Elizabeth Dickey, born 1831, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the eldest child of Walter (b. 1793) and Sarah Resseguie (b. 1800) Dickey. We are told she married in 1850, and died in 1850. However, on the (September) 1850 census, Mary, age 19, appears alone, unmarried, in Jackson township.
SARAH ELIZABETH DICKEY OWENS
Sarah Elizabeth Dickey, born 1865, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the eldest child of Nelson Resseguie (b. 1839) and Martha Powell Hughes (b. 1844) Dickey. She died in 1895, and is buried, as the wife of W. H. Owens, in Lyons Street Cemetery, Herrick.
VIRGIL M. DICKEY
Virgil McManus Dickey, born 1894, Susquehanna Co. PA, was the second son of Nelson Resseguie (b. 1839) and Clara McManus (b. 1878) Dickey. He entered the Soldiers' Orphans School program in 1902 at Chester Springs. Virgil, age 15, appears as a student at the Scotland School, just north of Chambersburg in Franklin Co., on the 1910 census.
