Was born in Ararat twp., Susquehanna Co., Pa., Feb. 3, 1830, of parents Thomas L. and Lucinda (Dickey) Doyle, neither of whom are living. His wife, whom he married Jan 1, 1865, in Lenox township, Susquehanna County, Pa., and who was born in Luzerne County, Pa., Jan. 27, 1846, was before marriage, Mary E. Stone. Her father, Knight Stone, is deceased, but her mother, Patience P. (Clark) is still spared. By this marriage there are the following children: Emeline (married David E. Dickey and they have one child: Lucinda), Perry (married Emma L. Hine and they have four children, Elbert, Ora A., Mary E. and Lulu D.) Comrade Doyle was by occupation a farmer, and was 32 years of age when he entered the service, October, 1862 at Montrose, Pa. He became a private in Co. E. 177th Pa. V. I., and for a short time, acted as a Corp., on picket duty. He was treated in Co. Qtrs., with chronic diarrhea, rhuematism, catarrh and heart trouble. His services consisted mainly of picketing, scouting, camp and garrison duty; he also did provost duty at Sandy Hook, Va., and was granted an honorable discharge August, 1863. His grandfather, Peter Dickey, served in the Revolutionary war in the Continental Army and also had two sons in the U. S. Army, during the War of 1812. His brother, Theodore, served in Pa. Art. Comrade Doyle has been constable, collector, Insp. and judge of election and his occupation is that of a farmer: he is a member of Frank Hall Post No. 505, and his wife is a member of W. R. C., auxiliary to that Post; their address is Ararat, Pa. | |
