My Shales family lived in Plaistow in Essex and were tailors. The furthest back I have got, is to Thomas Shales who was born in 1784 according to his death certificate. All I know about him is that he was a Methodist, taking part in the running of his Chapel.

I think it is possible he may have come from Norfolk, as there is a Norfolk connection with spouses in the family.
