Our Riseley family lived in Croxton in Cambridgeshire, although the first couple (John Riseley and Sarah Cuppis) married in Little Paxton in Hunts. It is probable that this John Riseley came from Bedfordshire where there are numerous Riseley families, but research needs to be done on that.

Someone told me that the name 'riseley' meant 'brush clearer' in Danish. I dont know whether they were Danish, but they were certainly agricultural labourers and the like, possibly working for the same family. During the middle of the 19th century the Riseley's began to move into London; my own George Wiles Riseley was a coachman who was unable to drive the new motor car bought by his employer. Out of a job, George moved to London where, ironically, he became an omnibus driver.
